Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

Yep!
I think that this will continue to quietly simmer away whilst the few people involved cross the 't's and dot the 'i's. I'm sure a farm-in partner is being courted!
It has to be remembered that it is a commercial find in its own right - but there would be a huge upside from sharing the supporting infrastructure of an emerging oil industry if there were additional finds of oil and not just gas.
I have been in 'long' and intend to remain so for some time to come!

YPF seizure has sent “shockwaves” globally; Argentina will “suffer consequences”
European Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht said Argentina is in for long term consequences after sending “shockwaves” internationally with the announced plans to expropriate 51% of YPF shares owned by Spain-based Repsol oil and gas company.

The true value of oil in the ground.
Often we read posts regarding oil production and demand.
Lately I have seen a few posts that have quired the value of the FI oil field against the back drop of an oil price that has started to slid.
An article in todays Telegraph shows the true value of oil, especially new or/and potential discoveries.
Lower production in the first quarter of this year at Exxon Mobile the worlds biggest energy company lead to lower profits of 11%.
Exxon are working on several fields to drive up production over the next 3 to 4 years, which is within the time frame of planned production of Sealion.
I appreciate that Exxon and Rockhopper have not been mentioned in the same breath, and I am not trying to connect the two in any way.
What this does show, is that even with a so called well published glut of oil due to lower world demand planning for production is never judged on today, tomorrow or even next year.
Planning has to be very forward looking, so when companies look at fields such as those discovered by Rockhopper, they don't give a damn about the current price of oil, its what it will be in 2 to 3 plus years that accounts for any future valuation.
So from one of the biggest players all the way down to the minnows, its discoveries that they need.
Discoveries are the lifeline of such companies, and anyone who still feels that Rockhopper will struggle to sell the company or to find a farm in partner just don't understand these issues.
That is why I feel that there are either several potential partners, prospective buyers still vying for Rockhoppers fields or of it is down to just one then hard negotiations are still ongoing.
No mater which avenue Rockhoper are heading down, the future prospects for the company and its investors looks very promising.
Despite the ups an downs of the oil price, oil will be king for many years yet!

Must be some poor news somewhere to send this into a sharp decline!

Whole market is down, so nothing to worry about specifically relating to RKH, imo.

Just looking at todays trades, it is obvious that many have been stop loss sales.
I would not blame sellers for bailing out today, if they feel at less risk in doing so (I am holding as I am sure most of us are), but to have shares sold from under you by setting a stop loss is not for me.
I see no problem with setting a stop loss, but with my investment strategy re RKH, IE high risk V high reward it would be counter productive.
Comparing some interesting figures.
SP 2010 on Sealion discovery reached 500p............oil around $76 pb.
SP at close today 295p.........oil around $98 pb.
So we have a proven self standing commercial oil field.
In addition since Sealion, we have several other smaller discoveries.
In addition we also have several good prospects.
In addition we have more cash in the bank plus further funding if required.
In addition we have (almost) a farm in partner.
And yet with the price of oil being around 30% higher than it was on discovery date the current sp is around 40% lower.
Whilst appreciating that the world is in an ever increasing mess, I will hang on in there relying both on the fundamentals of Rockhopper and the belief that world demand for oil wont evaporate over night.
So ask yourself this simple question.
Does todays sp make sense.
If yes, SELL.
If no, hang on in there or BUY more.
Simples!

greek with the oil price slipping the chances of the necessary farmin are diminishing, that is RKH'S problem, can they find a partner to invest up to $2 billion to develop Sealion which would take at least three years? What will the price of oil be in 2016?

i would hazard that by early/mid 2016 crude will be a fair bit higher than it is today, if for no other reason that that the world economies should be rocking along fairly merrily again by then

Hi Halifax,
I think your guess re price of oil in 2016 is as good as mine, but what I am as certain as I can be, is that even allowing for inflation it will be the equivalent of over $100 per barrel.
My reasons for this are two fold.
1 The world will not be a more peaceful place, making oil costs due to exploration and production difficulties more.
2 Ever increasing demand, even allowing for alternative energy sources and use.
I feel that oil at least for the next 10 years will still be king.
As to the price slipping, it is generally thought among the oil experts and looking at oil futures, that the price will hover around the $100 mark or higher.
Brent for June settlement was at $111.49 a barrel.
Predicted prices Q2 2012 $105.0 Q4 2012 $106.5 Q3 2012 $106.0 Q1 2013 $110.0
