Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

Whole market is down, so nothing to worry about specifically relating to RKH, imo.

Falklands’ trade mission in Aberdeen for investments and know-how to develop its oil industry
The largest trade mission to visit Britain from the Falkland Islands for almost 20 years will arrive in Aberdeen on Tuesday to explore the opportunities arising from the Islands’ fledgling oil and gas industry, reports The Scotsman.

Just looking at todays trades, it is obvious that many have been stop loss sales.
I would not blame sellers for bailing out today, if they feel at less risk in doing so (I am holding as I am sure most of us are), but to have shares sold from under you by setting a stop loss is not for me.
I see no problem with setting a stop loss, but with my investment strategy re RKH, IE high risk V high reward it would be counter productive.

Comparing some interesting figures.

SP 2010 on Sealion discovery reached 500p............oil around $76 pb.
SP at close today 295p.........oil around $98 pb.

So we have a proven self standing commercial oil field.
In addition since Sealion, we have several other smaller discoveries.
In addition we also have several good prospects.
In addition we have more cash in the bank plus further funding if required.
In addition we have (almost) a farm in partner.

And yet with the price of oil being around 30% higher than it was on discovery date the current sp is around 40% lower.

Whilst appreciating that the world is in an ever increasing mess, I will hang on in there relying both on the fundamentals of Rockhopper and the belief that world demand for oil wont evaporate over night.

So ask yourself this simple question.
Does todays sp make sense.

If yes, SELL.
If no, hang on in there or BUY more.

Simples!

greek with the oil price slipping the chances of the necessary farmin are diminishing, that is RKH'S problem, can they find a partner to invest up to $2 billion to develop Sealion which would take at least three years? What will the price of oil be in 2016?

cynic - 09 May 2012 17:35 - 6032 of 6294

i would hazard that by early/mid 2016 crude will be a fair bit higher than it is today, if for no other reason that that the world economies should be rocking along fairly merrily again by then

Hi Halifax,

I think your guess re price of oil in 2016 is as good as mine, but what I am as certain as I can be, is that even allowing for inflation it will be the equivalent of over $100 per barrel.
My reasons for this are two fold.

1 The world will not be a more peaceful place, making oil costs due to exploration and production difficulties more.

2 Ever increasing demand, even allowing for alternative energy sources and use.

I feel that oil at least for the next 10 years will still be king.

As to the price slipping, it is generally thought among the oil experts and looking at oil futures, that the price will hover around the $100 mark or higher.

Brent for June settlement was at $111.49 a barrel.

Predicted prices Q2 2012 $105.0 Q4 2012 $106.5 Q3 2012 $106.0 Q1 2013 $110.0

cynic - 09 May 2012 18:54 - 6034 of 6294

is that predicting or futures? .... if the latter, then far different

Blinkin' volatile...that's what I call it...was $106 for WTI just 10 days ago or less.....incredible......

Rockhopper Exploration: Chased 7p higher to 288½p, after speculation re-surfaced that it may be close to securing the $2 billion (£1.3 billion) it needs to develop its Sea Lion discovery, an estimated 500 million barrels lying about 200 kilometres off the Falklands.

Islands ‘oil deal’

THE most successful Falklands oil explorer so far is on the verge of a bumper deal, it was claimed last night.

ROCKHOPPER EXPLORATION was reportedly close to securing a partner to invest £1billion in developing its discovery.

Rockhopper refused to comment, and experts pointed out that previous Falklands rumours have been wildly wrong.

But one source said: “We hear Rockhopper approached the Falkland government yesterday to get their approval.”

Rockhopper is sitting on at least 355 million barrels of oil about 60 miles north of the islands. An independent report has declared it to be commercially viable. Shares closed up 9p at 297.50.

cynic - 30 May 2012 09:48 - 6041 of 6294

if that is so, i wonder what is the prognosis for sp ..... will it surge on the news, or will it be sell on same - currently 313?

markymar - 30 May 2012 10:12 - 6042 of 6294

There is volume there today,if there is a deal going down then Desire have to be sitting round the table at some point.

Desire market cap is only at 81 million and falling which I would have thought is possible it could double to treble if a deal goes a head considering what oil they hold.

cynic - 30 May 2012 10:18 - 6043 of 6294

not talking about DES, which i have no wish to hold!

DES have not flowed anything at all.....so how can they be in a deal with RKH ?.....RKH might rise on a deal....and DES could slump to 15p or so....

markymar - 30 May 2012 13:01 - 6046 of 6294

RF .....i think you need to read Desires CPR.

Desire have 4% of oil in sea lion field

Casper, Casper south, Beverley all hit hydrocarbons and need to be apprised to work out what they hold size wise also some gas in there as well.

Perhaps but you can't expect a company (big boy) to put up hundreds of millions for development without having anything flow tested like Rockhopper have with Sealion......we only know from the rns's what is going on.....so RKH might have to go it alone to start off with and then later on DES will participate somehow.....I cannot see how they can be involved in something definitive with so little known about those prospects yet.....I'm a big fan (sorry about the pun)....of the "Foilkies" including Argos who might have something big in their acreage (long way off development) but everytime I read about Desire Petroleum having oil : the percentages change !!!....to me the ones to be in are : RKH as a longterm investment....FOGL as hot..hot...hot...and a punt on BOR....ARG on the backburner and DES....not really at the moment unless there is new news about them joining in with Rockhopper.
