Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

Meanwhile, Falklands focused explorer Rockhopper Exploration (LON:RKH), which Interactive Investor said was the most actively traded stock today, slipped nine percent to 203 pence in early deals.

Only yesterday Credit Suisse downgraded Rockhopper to ‘neutral’ from ‘outperform’ and reduced its price target to 365 pence from 531 pence on the back of last week’s farm-in deal with Premier.

Rockhopper agreed to sell a 60 percent stake in its North Falkland basin interests to Premier for US$231 million in cash and a funding commitment of US$770 million.

The fact is that any oil find off the FI will a) take a fair while to reach production stage and b) be expensive to extract.

after a weak start, but with bid now outnumbering offer 3:1, it's just possible that the bears have decided that they have now had enough fun and are starting to close

Looking at other sites, I see that many are disappointed by todays RNS showing that members of he 'bod' have not bought in larger numbers.

Although it would have been nice to see members of the BOD, purchase more shares than they have done, I feel that it is not so much lack of confidence in the company as lack of confidence in the sp, which is totally different.
Although I like most hoped to see a better deal than they got from Premier, it was as most accept, the best one out there.
They could have tried to go down the equity route without bringing in a partner, but what with the way interest rates to businesses are going, especially what would be deemed high risk and the current world financial (risk) attitude, I very much doubt they would have got a better deal than the Premier partnership deal.

So back to the confidence of the Bod.

No matter what your confidence level in the company, why risk buying a large tranch of shares at todays price, when indications are that the sp could, and I stress could, go lower still.

Unsettling, I know, but how many of us are confident that the bottom has been reached.

If I was looking to invest more in Rockhopper (I am fully commited) I would be looking to buy in stages, starting at todays bargain price, whilst watching and waiting to buy in several times over any further price drops.

Of course this carries its own risks, as the bottom could have been reached, but its far better to miss out on buying for a few ticks up of the sp, than it is to fully commit and then see a steady drop.

Like the Bod, I still have confidence in the company, but not in the sp.
When buying and selling shares, the bod know like we do, Its timing that counts!

A strange object is in the sky this morning it looks like the sun.

greekman - 20 Jul 2012 11:02 - 6174 of 6294

Markymar,

I do tend to agree with your opinions on most things posted on these threads, but when you start posting such unbelievable nonsense like seeing the sun, I have to start doubting what you say.
A bit more credibility in your posts please!

Is There a Solution to the Falklands/Malvinas Conflict?
By Dr. Yoav J. Tenembaum (*) - The Falklands is a perennial red top tabloid favorite. But aside from providing patriotic copy, it is a squabble with serious diplomatic consequences. What to do (or not do) in the case of the Islands remains tricky. Is there a solution?
Theoretically, yes; practically, no.

avsec - 30 Jul 2012 12:14 - 6179 of 6294

I'm not sure a lecturer at Tel Aviv university is the best placed person to suggest joint sovereignty of land to settle an argument between nations - his proposal hasn't worked too well in Palestine - claimed areas!

I would think the upcoming referendum on Nationality in the Falklands will be a resounding rebuttal to Argentina but CFK will no doubt dream up an answer to that

http://en.mercopress.com/2012/08/09/argentina-warns-us-and-eu-markets-on-oil-exploration-activities-in-the-falklands

Argentina warns US and EU markets on oil exploration activities in the Falklands

Argentina’s National Securities Commission, CNV, officially communicated leading international stock exchanges in the US and Europe that hydrocarbons companies operating in the Argentine continental shelf in the area of the disputed Falklands/Malvinas Islands are involved in “illicit and clandestine” activities.

I am sure for Noble to join the ranks of Companies exploring in the Falklands its had to be passed at the highest level in Americana due to the political tension it may course.
So with the Argies trying to turn the screws a bit more with America involved we might see some sort of response soon….i hope…interesting on the political side how this is played out.

Great to have Noble on board hoping they take 5th slot…
