Centamin Egypt : Worth waiting for... (CEY)

pthwaite - 20 Sep 2004 10:27

CEY is a gold mining company operating in Egypt. It was ordered by the Egyptian Government to stop drilling pending a legal dispute brought against the company by a government minister.

Since then, the whole Government cabinet was replaced a few months ago and the minister now in charge of Mining is believed to be positive on Western investment in the country. CEY are pushing for this minister to allow them to continue drilling ASAP; investers are waiting....patiently.

As soon as the company gets the go-ahead to continue drilling, the share price will move north; CEY has plenty of gold in this mine and it is (apparantly) the case of "raking" it out rather than drilling for it!

Check them out...worthy of a punt.

Did not get my timing right 143p..(I never do) but perhaps another surge to above 150p is on the cards.....mine will be unaffected by all the troubles in the cities....

kernow - 03 Feb 2011 09:38 - 646 of 2354

Agreed - a fatuous analogy.
Also isn't it the case that the army has its own economy/funds? Mubarak needs the army more than it needs him. If the army thinks regime change is needed then change it will.

160p might even be on the cards.....

HARRYCAT - 03 Feb 2011 09:51 - 649 of 2354

So might 120p.....! If you are convinced that the sp will get back to it's former level once the troubles are over, why not just sit on your holding and think longer term?

HARRYCAT - 07 Feb 2011 11:02 - 652 of 2354

Muslim Brotherhood now in talks with the government? Mumbarak looks like he may have to go pdq, but still resisting over worries of a vacuum. Can't make up my mind whether the worst is over or yet to come.

cynic - 07 Feb 2011 11:09 - 653 of 2354

from what i can gather, MB is fairly moderate in its views, but for sure it will be targetted for infiltration and manipulation by the extremists, both from within egypt and from without

in the immediate future, i would fully expect Mubarak to step down within the next month under some face-saving formula - and truckloads of cash left in his bank! ..... for the rest of 2011 (say) we'll probably see a fairly uneasy political time as the various parties jockey for position ..... thereafter? .... who knows, though i stand by my prediction of a fundamentalist regime within 5 years

HARRYCAT - 08 Feb 2011 11:59 - 654 of 2354

I think I am correct in saying that the Egyptian stock market re-opens tomorrow after a long closure since the troubles started. Egyptian central bank has supported the currency, but the trading desks are going to be left to their own devices. Will be interesting to see if there is a big sell-off, which the government fear may happen.

cynic - 08 Feb 2011 12:18 - 655 of 2354

sold mine yesterday for a very small profit, but quite happy to be out ..... indeed markets feel to be set for a retrenchment, but i have no logic for that, other than they've been chugging ahead for a while now
