can i just say that SWW was just showing signs of a disiplined trader when he sold...i will now let him obviously answer the question and keep my big nose out of it!

That's OK Prop. More feedback the better. Amateur dabblers like me (frequent and moderately costly mistakes in past) need all the assistance from the pro's we can get.

I would stop watching the trades, dont make any decisions from it, if you have access i have a thread over on the traders bb on trade reporting.

HNR for me was a buy after a fall.

I had no intention of keeping that cash tied up, but saw the chance of making a quick buck!

I did!

It surpassed my target price, (+10), so I made the decision at +17p.

I noted that there had been consistant rises over a number of days, and rather than have all my cash in the one venture, (Mauritannia), decided to take the profit on HNR. Today there had been disproportional sells to buys.

I then put the profit plus a little into SEY, so in a way, I have a partial free carry in the stock.

To me that was a wise move.

I now have cash to spare for the next panic that stikes a stock for no reason.

I would consider HNR if things are right, the but is although they stand to get a bigger slice if things work out, they are also risking a lot, whereas SEY have a free carry.

I am not saying my strategy is right, but it was right for me.

I am holding PCI as a punt, and PRE both of which are short term holds, both of which have the potential to make me money more than they have already, (he says crossing fingers and toes).

nice summation...the inner workings of SWW's trading strategy in black and white and i like the free carry reference....like stock, like investor!

i really think these SEY are going to pop...

seawallwalker - 07 Oct 2004 16:47 - 658 of 7811

HNR has dropped below my sell price on the close, so for today, I was right.

My next trick is never to look back at what might have been, unless the price drops through the floor.

proptrade - 07 Oct 2004 16:51 - 659 of 7811

smart...my view has always been as long as i am happy at that point in time about buying, selling or cutting i don't care what happens from there. still, nice that it all worked out for you today SWW!

seawallwalker - 07 Oct 2004 16:54 - 660 of 7811

Thank you
:-)

seawallwalker - 07 Oct 2004 18:24 - 661 of 7811

The 13 million buys and under 1 million sells today, wouldn't by any chance have any bearing on your thoughts??????

seawallwalker - 07 Oct 2004 18:40 - 662 of 7811

Bllomberg TV today :-

Sterling Energy was one of 5 featured Oil & Gas Exporers that had a good trading day.

It was the only minnow amongst the bigger boys.

Bloomberg seem to be taking a lot of notice lately....................

gavdfc - 07 Oct 2004 18:53 - 663 of 7811

Been out most of the day so missed the fun. Another good day for us though, lots of buying, nice. Seems to have been quite a bit of interest here lately.

Well done on your HNR trade SWW, nice profit on it and you bought more here! Nice one. As for the Bloomberg TV part, is that not the 2nd time they have been mentioned on that channel lately? I seem to recall some analyst talking about them previously? I assume that they just said that we have had a good few days trading lately? Anyway it all helps I guess.

Prop, cheers for sharing your thoughts earlier. Always good to have an exchange of thoughts, ideas and trades. All makes for a good BB which this one is. We even have food discusions here!

Looking forward to tomorrow as always.

Cheers

Gav

IC article - BUY

STERLING ENERGY (SEY)

Sterling Energy's gross profits almost doubled to 3.3m due to the inclusion, for the first time, of production from the Osprey fields, acquired earlier this year. The acquisition of these assets more than doubled reserves, adding over 30bn cubic feet in proven and probable reserves. As a result of the deal, and an overall increase in reserves in other fields. Sterling now has reserves equivalent to more than 15 years' production. And, over the next 12 months, the group will be involved in work at over 20 wells in Africa and the Gulf of Mexico.

Its development programme at the Chinguetti field off the coast of Mauritania is expected to produce its first oil in early 2006. Premier Oil, with which Sterling has a deal, will pay a royalty on every barrel produced under its 6 per cent working interest in the PSC B oilfield and 3 per cent in PSC A. House broker Evolution Securities forecasts full-year, underlying, pre-tax profits of 3.6m, giving EPS of 0.39p.
