Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

keep plugging away hlyeo98, a dribble is still a dribble at the end of the day.

markymar - 07 May 2010 08:37 - 664 of 6294

Balerboy all wells will be capped and abandoned its just this one has about 250 million barrels of oil in it. There is a ship on the way to do a full test on it!

dealerdear - 07 May 2010 08:40 - 665 of 6294

It hasn't got our politicians on has it?

They could do with being capped and abandoned ..

hlyeo98 - 07 May 2010 08:48 - 666 of 6294

100p still cheap

cynic - 07 May 2010 08:51 - 667 of 6294

EMU .... it is not impossible that this well will be be C&A, but not necessarily because the well/site is uneconomic ..... Big Al and others who are far far more knowledgeable than I will, I think, confirm that this is often done while the extent of the whole field is established and thus the best areas/holes from which to extract

Balerboy - 07 May 2010 08:59 - 668 of 6294

not your usual cynical self cynic.....not like you to follow hlyeo98 hype. sp will drop to 60p soon..
edit: dream on marky.

Sold out.....had to take some profits and then clicked the whole lot....risen so much in such a short time...and a lot depends on testing and such...will be back....

dealerdear - 07 May 2010 09:02 - 670 of 6294

A profit is a profit rf so well done.

Balerboy - 07 May 2010 09:04 - 671 of 6294

at last someone with some sense. well done rf, right time to bail out of this sinking ship.

HARRYCAT - 07 May 2010 09:05 - 672 of 6294

Well done rf. You can't lose profit in the bank (usually).
Have sold 50% & will hold the rest to see what happens. I expect the sp to slide over the next few weeks, so am happy to pick up some more then.

greekman - 07 May 2010 09:09 - 673 of 6294

RNS out re Holdings in Company, with all details blank, (strange). Checked on another site, all it is, is a Capital Management company sold 1 mill shares.

Guys ...whilst all this is the centre of attention, keep an eye on SEY....drilling slowly away there....and first target depth not that far away...

Balerboy - 07 May 2010 09:33 - 675 of 6294

and down she goes....88p

greekman - 07 May 2010 09:38 - 676 of 6294

Hi Balerboy,

Of course it is. A hung parliament is now assured.
As to a sinking ship. WHY.

required field - 07 May 2010 09:40 - 677 of 6294

Just could not get past that 100p mark, if it had we might have seen 105p or so...shades of Afren here...reality check now...funnily enough I can foresee DES remaining up a bit...perhaps not dropping back so much....anyway we shall see...but it's looking good for the suite of the drilling campaign...

required field - 07 May 2010 09:43 - 678 of 6294

In auction...dropping..

required field - 07 May 2010 09:45 - 679 of 6294

oooppss...DES...down as well...

cynic - 07 May 2010 09:56 - 680 of 6294

missed a lot of my profit here, but have now reduced holding to "modest"

Energy -- Oil and Gas, Exploration and Production

ROCK 'N' ROLL!

Event

Rockhopper Exploration has announced that well 14/10-2 targeting the
Sea Lion prospect is an oil discovery. It has encountered a 150 metre
gross oil column containing 53 metres of net pay in multiple zones. The
thickest of these is 25 metres and average porosity is 19%.
Rockhopper now intends to collect additional data before deciding
whether to plug and abandon the well, or to suspend it for future
testing. The company is also considering whether to drill an appraisal
well on Sea Lion later during the current drilling campaign, although it
has confirmed that it still plans to use the fourth slot in the overall
programme to drill the 156 mmbbl Ernest prospect.

Impact

There is still work to do to establish Sea Lion as a commercial discovery
but the news is good so far. At 53 metres, the net oil column is bigger
than the 30 metres assumed in the 170 mmbbl best estimate in last
years Competent Persons Report (CPR). Indeed, the figure is close to
the 56 metres used to calculate the P10 number of 478 mmbbl.
Meanwhile, we consider average porosity of 19% to be satisfactory even
though it corresponds to the figure used in the P90 case.

Action/Valuation

There are reasons to believe Sea Lion could be bigger than the pre-drill
best estimate but, for the time being, we continue to use 170 mmbbl as
the basis for our valuation of Rockhopper. Allied to an oil price of US$70
per barrel flat real and a 15% discount rate, we estimate a field of this
size would be worth 343p/share. In addition, our assessment of the
expected monetary value (EMV) of the prospects that the company either
will drill or hopes to participate in the drilling of over the next few
months plus its remaining cash is equivalent to 90p/share.

Hence, we raise our target price from 172p/share to 433p/share and maintain our
rating at SPECULATIVE BUY.

Well they have found oil so there will be plenty more excitement in the next year or so...it also paves way for future fund raising as this sort of drilling costs a packet.
