From another BB:

IC article - BUY

8 October 2004

STERLING ENERGY (SEY)

Sterling Energy's gross profits almost doubled to 3.3m due to the inclusion, for the first time, of production from the Osprey fields, acquired earlier this year. The acquisition of these assets more than doubled reserves, adding over 30bn cubic feet in proven and probable reserves. As a result of the deal, and an overall increase in reserves in other fields. Sterling now has reserves equivalent to more than 15 years' production. And, over the next 12 months, the group will be involved in work at over 20 wells in Africa and the Gulf of Mexico.

Its development programme at the Chinguetti field off the coast of Mauritania is expected to produce its first oil in early 2006. Premier Oil, with which Sterling has a deal, will pay a royalty on every barrel produced under its 6 per cent working interest in the PSC B oilfield and 3 per cent in PSC A. House broker Evolution Securities forecasts full-year, underlying, pre-tax profits of 3.6m, giving EPS of 0.39p.

Thanks gavdfc for the updates.

Unusual for them to give an update not on a Tuesday.

They must be very pleased, and or excited by the results so far.

I wonder if the rederves that are eventually found will rival the North Sea?

Lets hope so, hey!

seawallwalker - 08 Oct 2004 08:12 - 673 of 7811

Up 4% plus this morning at 08.12hrs.

Great start :-))

gavdfc - 08 Oct 2004 08:16 - 674 of 7811

You're welcome SWW. They must have thought the data was significantly (like that word) important enough to release to the market today. Also, there was a rumour in one of the newspapers today that HNR had encountered oil in quantity.

I guess if the rumour was out then best to release information to the market. Sounds like they are excited about the results, just as we are. As for reserves matching the North Sea, well I wouldnt know about that so couldn't comment. But considering the size of investment and number of companies operating there the reserves must be very significant indeed. A good time to be invested in that region, and we are in with a cracker here, IMO of course. I think it may start to take time for some investors to realise that we have a free carry in this region, but I think now that some are perhaps just realising this.

Nice blue start to the day.

seawallwalker - 08 Oct 2004 08:22 - 675 of 7811

Too true.

My North Sea was as you guessed, wishful!

This has just come out as a summation.

UK small cap opening - Hardman higher on Mauritania success
AFX

LONDON (AFX) - Hardman Resources hardened 1-1/2 at 98-1/2 on news of more exploration success off the coast of Mauritania.

Partner Woodside Petroleum said the Tevet-1 exploration well intersected a gross gas column of approximately 70 meters above a gross oil column of approximately 44 meters.

It also said the Tiof-3 appraisal well, in the same block, which was testing a separate feature, intersected a gross oil column of 134 meters.

The exploration and production company has said the Tiof field has the potential to be as big as the Chinguetti oil project which has gross reserves of 120 mln barrels of oil.

Thanks for that. Wonder if we will get a release from SEY? Didn't last time so not expecting one today but who know's.

So far in this drilling campaign I would say that it's been very successful. So makes you think just how much oil and gas is out there. Your North Sea dream may come true SWW! Plenty of more newsflow to come out with the daily Tuesday updates, but this one was a very nice bonus. Great way to end the week. :-))

proptrade - 08 Oct 2004 09:18 - 677 of 7811
