That was a nice surprise this morningup 20p.Net profit was broadly flat at GBP224.3 million from GBP223.2 million last yearin this climate and still in a recession.I would say pretty good
Shares closed Tuesday at 341p down slightly on the last three months but up almost 60% in the year-to-date as the retail outlook improves from the steep declines seen earlier this year...

marni - 05 Nov 2009 00:54 - 687 of 974

a disgrace that M&S are having big bonuses when sp in last 2 years has been crap and sharehiolders much poorer cos of it............shareholders should all sell up and let this jewish company go bust as without them there would be no staff let alone big bonuses for a struggling company

Issued: Wednesday 18 November 2009

Marks & Spencer appoints MARC BOLLAND as its new Chief executive

Marks and Spencer Group plc today announces the appointment of Marc Bolland as
its new Chief Executive. He will take up his position in the New Year at a time
and on terms to be confirmed. Marc, 50, joins from Morrisons where he was Chief
Executive.

Commenting on Marc's appointment, M&S Chairman Sir Stuart Rose said, "I am
delighted that Marc is to be M&S' next Chief Executive. He brings a wealth of
consumer marketing experience and has made a great success of his time at
Morrisons. We very much look forward to welcoming him and working together."

Marc Bolland said, "M&S is one of the world's great brands and I am very pleased
to be given the opportunity to lead the company forward at this exciting stage.
I am greatly looking forward to working closely with Stuart and the M&S team."

On Marc taking up his position as M&S' new Chief Executive, Sir Stuart Rose will
continue as part-time Chairman of M&S to ensure a smooth transition. As
previously announced, Sir Stuart will leave M&S by July 2011.

Marc joined Morrions in September 2006 as Chief Executive. Prior to that he was
Chief Operating Officer and Executive Board Member at Heineken NV based in the

Its Marks And Spencer mks for me just before and after the festive season and looking forward to a positive update to the market on the 6th of January re- the 3/4tr.

Bought the stock late friday at 402p and glad to se the stock remaining above the 400p psychological level at close.

If we look at the longer term chart we find that we have firstly 440p ish resistance to overcome followed by 450p resistance as shown on the chart.....

lastly we take a look at the short term action and short term chart which is showing a pleasing rise away from a horizontal trading range.

Marc Bolland looks set to join Marks and Spencer earlier in the new year than anticipated.

As The Independent on Sunday predicted a fortnight ago, the directors of supermarket group William Morrison decided he should take "gardening leave" until starting as chief executive of M&S. Just when that will be depends partly on how soon he can thrash out his leaving terms.

Bolland earned 1.7m last year and has a 12-month contract which includes some long-term incentives and around 4m of shares which he is expected to forego, "In these situations, it is normal for the recruiting company to pick up the tab for what their new man will have to give up," said one head-hunter implying a generous "golden hello".

The news helped push M&S shares through 400p the price that Philip Green had offered to pay in 2004.

At Morrison, head-hunters MWM is searching for a chief executive. But support is said to be growing for the finance director, Richard Pennycook, to step up.
