Marchpole - Nice New Clothes (MPH)

Socrates - 30 May 2003 18:58

Marchpole is one of those stocks which have had a really bad time. Boardroom battles, losses, price collapse, profit warnings up the ying yang.

Now all of those things seem to be sorted out, new management are getting to grips, new contracts and the price is on the up. So much so that Monday ought to see a 50/200 day MA golden cross.

DYOR of course, but I think I will be putting a few of these away at the open.

pathetic .... you must be related to scottinvestor and his clan.
if you think throwing a tantrum at Michael Morris will do you and your other friends any good, then i think you will be sorely disappointed.
clearly you have some link with MPH and/or its shares for otherwise you would not have posted at all ..... i look sceptically and with good reason at so-called altruistic motive

personally, i do not think that either MM or MPH has behaved remotely illegally.
as i have oft said, the company is run by a total egocentric with a complete lack of man-management skills or even a realisation of that shortcoming.
while the high street is indeed suffering, and for very obvious reasons, MPH's profligacy with its seedcorn designers has brought inevitable disaster on itself.

no sympathy for them or the investors from this site who have been well forewarned

Momentis - 10 Feb 2008 15:39 - 689 of 715

I am loathe to help you get out of your delusional state as, I am told, such a procedure is best carried out by a qualified doctor.

However, I have been advised that the side effects tend to only leave the subject as a gibbering idiot for a week or two. So, whether any one will notice any difference is a bit of a moot point.

Two points, if you can manage to concentrate long enough:

1. You are the instigator of this abusive exchange (see 684). It is laughable that you seem to be trying to seize some kind of moral (or other) high ground.

2. You may find that judgements on Marchpole, Morris etc boil down to a little more than his inability to retain or recruit a knitwear designer. This seems to be the main driver for your bearish comments.

I will not comment further here, I think you are best left talking to the empty room that was this thread before my post. You can then hear the echo of your own voice in peace, marvel at it and be at one with your own, pompous, self regard.

cynic - 10 Feb 2008 16:52 - 690 of 715

Morris has lost far more than just one knitwear designer ... that incident was merely symptomatic of the underlying malaise.

anyway, at the end of the day, the share price, as mouthpiece of the market's view of the company, speaks for itself .....or would you care to refute that and claim that the market has it all wrong and that soon, the poor and becoming ever more poor and more battered shareholders will be basking in ever rising profits?

in fact, other than choosing to abuse me, about which i care little, you do not seem to have disagreed with anything i have posted, or even come up with a credible alternative reason as to the company/sp's demise.

if you think Morris/MPH has acted illegally or irresponsibly in other ways, perhaps you would care to enlighten us all ..... or even if you wish to act as chief apologist on his/its behalf

by the way, have my bearish comments proved to be misplaced or even post-event?

Time for a good bounce

cynic - 19 Feb 2008 16:35 - 698 of 715

if i were to venture into high street stocks, it sure wouldn't be with MPH .... half tempted by Woolies tho

if MPH bounce, it will surely only be a small and unsustainable DCB ..... 2 profit warnings so far .... old adage of course predicts 3

The much expected Hardman report is out on April 08.........

MARCHPOLE

We welcome the appointment of John McCauley as a much needed full-time finance director.
The share price has suffered recently due to high indebtedness and a cash outflow of 12.6m (42% of sales) in the last reported half year.
A contract in the US was badly priced and resulted in an unexpected 0.6 loss on sales of 2.5m in the first half.

We forecast that Marchpole will post a c.a. 3.2m loss for the current year and that losses should continue in the first half before breakeven is reached in the second half.

The company still has problems: some trade receivables are proving difficult to collect, turnover is running at 25% of its peak, and the fashion industry is in recession.
But equally, Marchpoles debt should be now on the decrease, its market cap is less than 15% of sales, the company is likely to be in profit on a month by month basis within six months and will benefit from a more professional financial management.
Any new business wins from this point could boost both earnings and share price.

re- warned that the chickens would come home to roost and so they have

Maybe a few too many warning from you, only posting when share price is down.

One has to see value where there is some, yesterday's deal by "Donna Karan" taking a 29.9% stake for 2.5M ( market cap at the time for 100%) show the real value

--------------
Marchpole Holdings, Donna Karan International form JV

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Marchpole Holdings Plc. said it has formed a
joint venture and strategic licensing pact with Donna Karan International Inc.,
part of the Louis Vuitton Group, under which Marchpole will source, design,
produce and distribute a full range of DKNY menswear apparel with the active
involvement of Donna Karan International in New York.
The fashion brand management group also said that the agreement is for an
initial period of seven years, with an option to extend the licence for an
additional seven years.
A new company has also been formed to carry on the business of the joint
venture between Marchpole and Donna Karan International which will be owned
initially as to 90 percent by Marchpole and as to 10 percent by Donna Karan
International, the company said.
Donna Karan International's holding may be increased to 15 percent in year
three and to 20 percent in year seven upon the exercise of warrants which it
will hold over new company's shares, it added.
