You may have seen this but just logged on and cant be bothered to read all the posts:

Gulf Keystone Petroleum, meanwhile, jumped 23 to 105p on speculation that the company is set to receive a bid at between 175p and 180p from Sinopec

this can be found at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/markets/marketreport/6263163/Miners-help-push-FTSE-past-5000-threshold.html#

Sorry if its old news

cynic - 05 Oct 2009 20:34 - 693 of 5505

thank you wiz ..... actual wording is as below .....

Gulf Keystone Petroleum, meanwhile, jumped 23 to 105p on speculation that the company is set to receive a bid at between 175p and 180p from Sinopec. Volumes were heavy.

Thanks guys - that explains today's leap. I'd (optimistically) set an auto-sell at 171p, thinking of the distant future. Guess we could get there sooner than I thought...

capetown - 05 Oct 2009 20:51 - 695 of 5505

CYNIC,i will forgive you for doubting me,i should hve said telegraph online,
fantastic news if true.

cynic - 05 Oct 2009 21:03 - 696 of 5505

don't forget time element + "doubt" discount so 170 = approx 145/150

Toya - 05 Oct 2009 21:13 - 697 of 5505

Yes thanks - might adjust my auto-trade, though sometimes the sp will spike with excitement.

capetown - 05 Oct 2009 21:19 - 698 of 5505

Toya,we could get there as early as 0800 hrs TUES 6th oct.

Toya - 05 Oct 2009 21:22 - 699 of 5505

That would be nice Capetown! Hope you can exert some influence

capetown - 05 Oct 2009 21:26 - 700 of 5505

I doubt that i can, would you sell @171 given that there is so much speculation on the actual amount of reserves that have been declared to date, and the drilling is not get complete?

Toya - 05 Oct 2009 21:29 - 701 of 5505

I would sell half my holding, just in case... I'm trying to be much more disicplined, even if it means I may lose out if it gets to 10 or whatever. I've suffered too much in the past from unrestrained greed!

capetown - 05 Oct 2009 21:40 - 702 of 5505

Toya,i know what you mean by greed and i would even add fear to that in my case where GKP is concerned, probably because i got in late @76 watching it from early 30,s. well lets see what tommorrow brings,i will be watching Cynic like a hawk.

grevis2 - 05 Oct 2009 23:15 - 704 of 5505

Thanks capetown. Here is the article:

Gulf Keystone Petroleum closed up a stonking 28pc as talk resurfaced that the AIM-listed oil exploration and development company is on the radar screen of the deal-hungry Chinese. The company operates in Algeria and Kurdistan. Chinese state-owned Sinopec recently bought Addax Petroleum, which also operates in Kurdistan, and Sinochem bought Emerald Energy to expand into oil and gas in Syria and Columbia. Shares were 23.25 higher at 105.5p.

Thanks both. Could even be worth buying more this morning - but that would be greedy...

CT: as I don't have a video-link to Cynic, I think I'll stick with watching the GKP chart instead :)

capetown - 06 Oct 2009 06:49 - 706 of 5505

Toya,i admire and respect Cynics brutal honesty and is posts have served me well in the past and no doubt in the future ,one does not have to agree ,but a balanced view is always a basis for debate.Today should be interesting especially if we get even more press coverage.

Good luck to all.

Toya - 06 Oct 2009 06:54 - 707 of 5505

Yes - Cynic is very knowledgeable, despite his claiming to have an addled brain.
Let's hope he doesn't have to rush off to his golf today - though I will be going out later and will miss some of the fun.

capetown - 06 Oct 2009 07:09 - 708 of 5505

RNS.
So its the further discovery that leaked its way into the market ahead of the rns and perhaps not the speculation of a bid, this gets better and better.

Toya - 06 Oct 2009 07:11 - 709 of 5505

Think I might buy more after all...

capetown - 06 Oct 2009 07:26 - 710 of 5505

Reading the rns again, are they saying the new discovery has a deposit of higher grade oil and is of better quality than the first discovery at higher levels?
