News Headlines:  

U.S:Technology stocks moved higher as buyers returned after two sessions of losses on the second anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11.  Gains tomorrow will depend on a number of reports on earnings from Oracle, and economic data on retail sales, consumer sentiment and producer prices. InterContinental Hotels Group reported a 31 percent dip in first-half 2003 profits on Friday and said it saw little evidence of a recovery in trading. The group, which operates InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn hotels, posted pre-tax profits of 92 million pounds for the six months to June 30 ahead of analyst forecasts of around 73-83 million pounds.

BAA airports operator, said on Friday its seven British airports experienced their busiest ever month in August up 3.6 percent on last year as all main markets continue to recovery since the Iraq war and SARS.

Lloyds TSB The number of bidders in the $4 billion auction for its  National Bank of New Zealand narrowed to one on Friday, threatening to cut the proceeds and raising the possibility of an initial public offering.

Acambis: The drugmaker's smallpox vaccine may also protect against HIV according to a new U.S. study.Debenhams: Private equity groups Texas Pacific and CVC are preparing a 1.6 billion pound counter-bid for the retailer that would top a previous offer from Permira, according to reports in the Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal.
