Business Financial Newswire
"Oil and gas company Sterling Energy made a net loss of $202.5m in 2009, reflecting impairment charges of $94.1m offset by a deferred tax credit of $24.0m and a loss on disposal of the group's US business of $118.8m.

Previous loss after tax was $156.8m.

EBITDA fell to $10.0m from $21.4m.

The group repaid $122.9m of outstanding debt during the year and was debt free at the December 31 year-end.

Equity placings in September and December raised a total of 81.3m. Cash balances at year-end were $113.9m.

Group turnover from continuing operations was $22.7m, up from $20.4m, primarily as a result of an increased average realised oil price from Chinguetti.

Production was down 7% at 4,493 bopd from 4,809 bopd.

Chairman Alastair Beardsall said the Sangaw North exploration well, Sterling's most significant project, was expected to take 180 days to drill. A commercial discovery would have the potential to transform the company.

Exploration projects in Cameroon and Madagascar were expected to advance after their respective political situations were resolved.

Sterling had sufficient cash resources to more than cover its anticipated work program for 2010 as well as identify new ventures to create a more diverse exploration portfolio. "

Don't reckon he knows what he's doing.

Just another mug punter that plays big stakes.

I'm remaining in Desire for at least the rest of the year...loads of wells to come...with now and again a short term trade...

This is drilling away quietly; there should be some indications of early hydrocarbons possibly coming up on the radar...my guess is that they are perhaps down to the 600m level.....180 days to complete this well...2 months gone by.....Gulfkeystone gave an update if I remember around this time with the first incredible upward spring for the sp....so any indication of any commercial oil or gas could send this ballistic....and this thread is ever so quiet !.....a real gamble this one ....I have quite a few...but nowhere near as many as the GKP ones that I had....update on drilling soon and this has gone back to 3p in old sp terms !...

required field - 24 Apr 2010 12:29 - 7465 of 7811

Just had a look at their website and there are some very interesting pictures of oil seeps on the surface....well if these are anything to go by : there has to be some oil of some kind down there...sandstone or limestone with oil oozing out to form small pools.....

HARRYCAT - 24 Apr 2010 17:43 - 7466 of 7811

Yep, I am still hanging on to this one also, though a bit confusing to know if I am in the money without logging on to my trading account. Long time to go, so not going to get over excited yet!

required field - 24 Apr 2010 18:31 - 7467 of 7811

Indications of an oil or gas in commercial amounts could come sooner than you think ; the 180 days is to complete and test the well down as far as 4.5 km.....there could be new target intervals long before total depth is achieved.

HARRYCAT - 05 May 2010 16:53 - 7468 of 7811

Up 11% today. Still no news though. Closed at 133.25p.

halifax - 05 May 2010 17:01 - 7469 of 7811

harry is that 4p in old coinage?

HARRYCAT - 05 May 2010 17:05 - 7470 of 7811

I think about 3.33p but that doesn't allow for the extra Rights Issue shares, so probably a bit more than my figure.
