SEFTON RESOURCES INC - UNDERRATED OIL PRODUCER (SER)

ptholden - 04 Aug 2006 19:53

???

Sefton Resources is an independent AIM quoted Oil and Gas company operating in the US. The companys principal current assets are two producing oilfields in California (Tapia Canyon Field and Eureka Canyon Field); it is also in the process of buying up prospective coal bed methane acreage (CBM) in Kansas.

Update from July 2007 AGM

Finance

I revealed in my annual statement that discussions were well advanced with
Banking institutions. The final phase of the agreement with a suitable bank
without complex and restrictive terms is now very near. This is weeks away
rather than months.

Oil

Oil production at Tapia has averaged 4,100 BO during the last five months. Which
is in line with last years levels. Once this finance is in place we will be able
to move ahead with drilling.

Drilling

We have stayed close to drilling contractors and we are ready to move forward
quickly when this finance is available.

Steam generation

The equipment is now in place at Tapia. Preparation time is needed to connect
the equipment and carry out the necessary trials required to get the main work
started. We anticipate this steaming will start in the next couple of months. If
successful a significant amount of oil resources will move into the Proven
Producing Reserves category.

Joint Ventures

Discussions continue with a number of interested parties to develop our Anderson
counties gas assets.

New finance team

A new CFO has been appointed with good knowledge and experience of the oil
industry. A new assistant to undertake all the daily needs has also been
appointed.

SWOT ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS:

Sefton has two oil fields, both producing. One is already profitable, and the other is breaking even. This should generate good cashflow for the company over the medium term.
Sefton owns 100% of both its major oil interests and is now demerging its non-controlled oil interests in order to concentrate on those where it has full control (Sefton has recently disposed of its Canadian assets for CDN450k cash).
Sefton is establishing a track record of using modern extraction technologies to improve the efficiency of its fields.

WEAKNESSES:

Sefton has suffered from a number of one-off factors. While these were out of the companys control the problems it has faced since 2002 have held back development and taken up management time. Investor disenchantment may account for the current low rating.

OPPORTUNITIES:

Sefton has acquired acreage for CBM (coal bed methane) in Kansas. CBM gas production is a thriving market and Sefton believes it has acquired the acreage at advantageous prices. While this is a longer term prospect it is an exciting one and could eventually eclipse the oil interests.
There are a number of other fields in the Ventura Basin and more generally in California as a whole that Sefton may look to target now its cash flows are stronger.
Eureka is a semi-exploration play which may contain further upside. This cannot yet be evaluated.
At this valuation the company may prove an attractive target for a larger player.

THREATS

Owing to its geographical location the company continues to be exposed to the threat of bush fires, canyon floods and geological interruption (earthquake risk). Sefton is taking steps to mitigate this risk by investing in Kansas and although Forest Basin area is susceptible to tornados - gas facilities have a minimal surface footprint.

Good morning all! Hoping to see that finance deal announced this week! Lot's of strange trading and the third week of 'Finance only weeks away rather than months'. Of course, the past two years events have always been "next week" with Sefton but hopefully JDM will change the previous poor communication we had from JE in how he would release news to investors suggesting weeks which rolled into months!

Morning all.

Mine Man - 23 Jul 2007 08:18 - 779 of 2350

Morning Moon, it's pretty quiet here, I hope more people start chatting soon! I can't see any point whatsoever in going back to the dark side, it looks as though it's pretty much trashed and will continue to carry on being so. It's a shame because until the appearance of two certain posters, it was one of the friendliest, best threads on there. I certainly won't bother posting there again and have cancelled my subscription at the end of this month, I will upgrade on here then.

Nice try by Union, but certainly no improvement. I find it staggering that ADVFN tolerates them. Back to Sefton, the price of oil is very high, giving them an easy $10 extra over the average price they were getting in the first 6 months.

Mine Man - 23 Jul 2007 08:32 - 781 of 2350

I note people keep saying that oil rises don't effect Sefton but I cannot see the reasoning there. Regardless whether it's tarmac quality or not, it still adds to their bottom line. Even a few months of high prices have a reasonable impact on the revenue for that period.

Morning L2 1v2

Mine Man - 23 Jul 2007 08:39 - 783 of 2350

I keep looking to see if the presentation that is being updated has returned, but I guess that will not happen now until the finance is in place and the future plans outlined in more detail.

I wonder if they have already made more inroads over the past few weeks to progress things based on the fact they know the cash is on it's way?

If it's a sure thing as they have stated, I guess they may well have ordered in the rig and are making preparations for an immediate start.

I predict an announcement of finance and drilling under way. They do have a knack for announcing things after the event as far as drilling is concerned!

moonshine - 23 Jul 2007 08:48 - 784 of 2350

The 2005 drilling campaign was very short on announcements if you take a look back at the news releases. I hope it will be different this time with JDM in control, but it doesn't have to be to comply with AIM rules. Dropside reckoned they were holding a board meeting in Vancouver last week, wonder if that was the decision making? If so we could hear very soon.

Wrt the oil price, just one month of $75 pb will give them an extra $41k.

Mine Man - 23 Jul 2007 08:51 - 785 of 2350

Four new tyres for JE's Caddy and a couple of Armani suits for JDM to wear at institutional presentations Moon! :O)

moonshine - 23 Jul 2007 09:23 - 786 of 2350

Ah, those sorts of decisions. Well I guess they need to be made too ;-)

aldwickk - 23 Jul 2007 12:33 - 787 of 2350

Surprised that the price at the pumps haven't gone up yet, maybe they want to keep the price just below 1, a bit like the shop retailers , good value at less then 1, only 99p.

Can't see much downside in the share price now.

Mine Man - 23 Jul 2007 16:33 - 788 of 2350

Oh, I don't know Aldwick, we've still got 5p tp play with lol!

cynic - 23 Jul 2007 16:36 - 789 of 2350

could have made mega-bucks shorting SEO at 5p!

driver - 23 Jul 2007 17:30 - 790 of 2350

cynic
Try it with SER then????

cynic - 23 Jul 2007 17:34 - 791 of 2350

alwqays knew i didn't like the look of SEO, but know even less about SER to determine whether or not it is worth shorting, or even buying for that matter ..... however, am currently still pretty happy to be short of SOLA and would have shorted COH if the downside had looked much greater than the probable 10/15%

explosive - 23 Jul 2007 23:22 - 792 of 2350

Could have made even more shorting it down from 14 Cynic... Oh well not to worry maybe I'll have more courage should the indicators present themselves again.

SECRUOSER - 24 Jul 2007 09:40 - 793 of 2350
