Gloustershire Constabulary Gears Up for High Speed Connectivity in Partnership with Kingston Communications

New data network will support pioneering tri-service control centre as well as bandwidth hungry applications such as video streaming from helicopters and CCTV

Gloucestershire Constabulary has awarded Kingston Communications a substantial contract to provide a resilient high-speed data network that will support the county's pioneering new TriService command and control centre.

The new infrastructure will enable Gloucestershire Constabulary to run bandwidth hungry applications more effectively, such as video streaming from helicopter mounted cameras.

It will also allow the force - one of 15 constabularies nationwide now using voice and data technology provided by Kingston Communications - to make better use of town centre CCTV systems.

In addition, Kingston's new network will support HOLMES, the Home Office Large Major Enquiry System. This will enable the force to set up a specialist casualty bureau - a feature of HOLMES - as well as remote police stations in the event of a major incident in Gloucestershire, where events such as the Royal International Air Tattoo and Cheltenham Races are held.

Shares magazine have KCOM as a HOLD

The comment I found interesting was

"Operating losses before exceptional items fell by 65% to 3 million and the company says it has been cash positive on an underlying basis over the past year"

This is not a share to buy or sell before 9am!

optomistic - 05 Dec 2003 10:06 - 86 of 582

Yes 5p/6p spreads certainly makes it difficult to buy at a usefull price. Looks like the MMs arn't too sure as to which way they would like the price to go!

Looking more interesting Mon/Tues. Can't let this thread dissapear into the depths!

kcom news.

Read all that, I can't say I fully understand it all, maybe its too early in the morning! It would be helpful if 'they' would indicate what likely impact it will have on future earnings.

Info on softswitch is here: http://www.marconi.co.uk/html/products/softswitch.htm

I think it'll save KCOM money and make everything faster and more reliable

optomistic - 12 Dec 2003 11:00 - 92 of 582

Had a quick look at Softswitch, seems impressive high tech stuff!
Note that the MMs have been very defensive again this morning with wide bid/offer range.

little woman - 12 Dec 2003 11:39 - 93 of 582

Whats intresting is that they don't seem to want to drop the offer price

optomistic - 12 Dec 2003 12:02 - 94 of 582

They must be like the rest of we patient holders, feeling sure that something positive must happen soon and holding firm until then. Hope thats the case! Ive been in Kcom for what seems an eternity now.

little woman - 12 Dec 2003 12:29 - 95 of 582

I have to admit, that although I some for the long term, I have currently a small amount of money I use to regulary buy & sell this share.

Using limit orders at the moment I'm buying at under 62p and selling over 66.5p making about 5% profit every 10 days or so!

optomistic - 12 Dec 2003 15:37 - 96 of 582

Have just arrived home and read your post. I can only say well done, a little profit often is very useful whilst waiting for bigger gains.
Thanks

little woman - 16 Dec 2003 13:03 - 97 of 582

dropping again - last thurs bought at under 62p and sold yesterday at over 66.5p at time to put a limit buy in place to see if I can do it again?

optomistic - 16 Dec 2003 19:56 - 98 of 582

Hi LW
You should be back in the running again. Price seemed to drift in later trade, can't see why, no series of sells evident. Had a look at going in short term myself today but held back. Will do the pivot points now and have a look again tomorrow.
Good luck
