Good news today.we are out of recession.its official. the economy grew 0.1% last quarter, that means we are now officialy out of recession. phew! thank goodness for that. what has always puzzled me is why it takes 2 quarterly results before officialy being in one and yet just the one to officialy come out. no matter. about time we had some good news somewhere.

Just had a call from one of these insurance bods, they know my name, telephone number, and home address, and, quoting The Data Protection Act they want ME to confirm my name and post code to THEM to ascertain that I am the person at that address they want to speak to. THEM being someone I don't know and have no way of checking whether they are bonafide or not, these people seem to think the DPA is a one way thing. Really p----s me off.

i had a call from my bank couple of weeks ago, before they could tell me what it is about they wanted to confirm some private details just to be sure they were talking to the correct person. but you called me i said.yes say they but for security reasons i just need to be certain i am talking to the right person. is it important and urgent i ask. if so i will go into my local branch to discuss. talk about apologetic, no, no, it is nothing to be concerned about and visiting your local branch is not required.
hopefully they will have it on record and not call again.

I had a query with SKY back along which is in my wife's name, so I rang them and a rather sensible girl asked me several questions about my wife which I answered and she then sorted out my query. Two weeks later different query and I get a chap who can't speak to me because the account is in my wife's name, never mind it's paid from our joint bank a/c. So I give the phone to my wife and the guy asks her name and date of birth and that's it, she could have been anyone with knowledge of those basic details even our next door neighbour.

I agree with the comments above.

Our water is supplied by Anglian Water. They have only recently had an online payment facility. Ordinarily for a supply like this we would have automatically set up a Direct Debit for paying the water bill. However, with these people we hadn't done.

So, we got a bill through the post and I would try to use online banking to pay it, but wouldn't easily be able to do so. When and if my wife dealt with it, well, she just fired them off a cheque.

One day, we got a letter from our bank telling us we could now pay Anglian Water with a new online facility. It was called OneVu

Then recently, we got an e-mail, apparently, via the bank to say there was an even newer facility to pay Anglian Water. It's OneVu under a new name. It's these guys:

Actually, it seems they have only just kicked off in the UK and only have just a few organisations signed up thus far. Anglian Water being one of the few.

Well, I had a look at the site and because of the banking payment facility thingy, I appear to already be signed upon to them, complete with a Username and Password.

So why am I telling you about them?

Well, their security questions are so very, very basic! D of B, that kind of thing. The questions they require the answers to really are so very simple and basic.

BUT they say they can also help me pay my credit card bills too! Behind all the very few water and electricity companies and the like that they can list (less than 10), they also want to know what credit cards I use and piles and piles of other such similar information about where and how I might be spending my money.

I thought to myself, "You guys are joking! I'm not telling you all that information!"

They haven't yet even got signed up with the credit card companies and such like. I guess they are just building leverage to go and talk to them. And, as I say, their security information requirements and safeguards are so basic as to be pathetic. Anyone could get hold of them and find them out and then get into this site and swipe loads of information about you.

Steer clear of them, is my advice. Steer well clear of MyBills Online

And another thing.....

My bank is very open plan.

If I go in to ask them something and they have to call over a colleague from another monitor and it's likely to keep them away from that monitor for more than a few minutes, then the colleague has to go back to and log out of that monitor.

I thought, "Why?"

I guess the answer is, that someone else could do something on that monitor or station, whilst logged in on the other original colleague's details.

ie. They don't trust each other.

Now if they don't trust each other then which amongst them are the ones that we also should not trust?

My experence of it was that the junior colleague fetched over the senior colleague and it was the latter, the senior colleague, who then went back and logged out.

So was it she who could be trusted? Or was it she who didn't trust ANYONE else, particularly the junior guys?

The mind boggles on it, eh?

Hmmm? They also film you and record it all on CCTV too.

Hmmm? I don't think they trust the customers either. These are dark days, indeed.

After the latest scandal of Tevez calling Neville a `bootlicker`, there seems to have been some confusion amongst the younger fans regarding their idols comments.

The craze seems to have spread around younger teams and the dream of been better players appears to have boosted their confidence enough to actually improve their performance.

Fully agree (not that your a thicko) but regarding the Korean threat. Although I put Iran at the top of the threat list. But it is only natural to fight back at someone you know you can beat.
I tend to put things as simplistic as possible (because that's the way I look at things, and they often are simplistic), if you are as an individual threatened by a thug who you think you can defend yourself against you do so. But if that thug is a 20 stone gorilla, then you would be a fool to do so.
When there is a situation where to defend yourself you have 'no choice' then you just have to take the risk. There may come a time with Korea/Iran and a few others, where there is no alternative but to fight.

Remember the 'bottle' shown by J F Kennedy in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
I think the vast majority except that the stand taken by J F K was the only thing that saved the world from the possibility of World War 3.

Problem is that risk has re-surfaced in another guise.

Perhaps I should get a placard stating, (The End Is Neigh) and join the band of usual protesters that you see in several cities. Of course one day they will be right.
