THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

And they frogmarched our troops into two wars with one hand
tied behind their backs.

Been on many discussion sites/forums over the years, with the vast majority degenerating into personal attacks, foul language and the like. On this forum/site that very rarely happens. Perhaps we should form a new political party. One that allows debate to a grown up level, something that the main 3 political parties often don't appear to achieve.

I would immediately stamp out government corruption.

Of course setting up such a party would be costly. Anyone out there with a few million quid to spare. Domicility of donors not questioned. Donors will also be eligible for government posts. The level of seniority/post will obviously be determined by skill/qualification level and not on the value of their monetary donation.

Now what could we call ourselves.

Namrehyou must have a large Da-TAB-ank?

greekman - 02 Feb 2010 14:28 - 8114 of 81564

OK. Looking at the last 3 replies, I am already tinkering around with proposals for the Party Cabinet.

Tabasco. Minister for policy.
Mnamreh. Minister for education and the arts.
Tyketto. Minister for Political Correctness.
Fred1. Minister for Sport (just realised, he is probably Welsh) still must at least appear to be none prejudice).
Note... I have already pencilled in myself for Dictator (sorry obviously meant PM), Treasurer, Leader of the House, conditional on a sealed postal vote of course.

By the way can anyone explain the rules of Rugby. Last time I watched it there was all this handling of the ball and the ref did nothing about it.
Also several goals were way over the crossbar and yet they were still allowed.

Fred1new - 02 Feb 2010 16:12 - 8115 of 81564

When I reclaimed England for the Welsh I didn't realise the problems I would have dealing with the lower ranks.

Mind some of the occupants were/are quite socialised and reasonably
civilised. One or two even intelligent, benefiting from the emigration of the Welsh train teachers in the 30s and 50s.

Pity about a few unpleasant ranters.

I thought the rugby ball was the right shape.

Well, if the Welsh will try to teach those trains .....

;-)

greekman - 02 Feb 2010 16:57 - 8119 of 81564

I am beginning to think Fred1 is Peter Mandelson.

Chris Carson - 02 Feb 2010 17:24 - 8120 of 81564

Fred - As tempting as it is for me to abuse you, I'm trying to turn over a new leaf you are more to be pitied than laughed at. All you need is the occassional pat on the head and a lump of sugar and you will be fine, after all everyone has their cross to bear not your fault your Welsh eh!

tabasco - 02 Feb 2010 17:35 - 8121 of 81564

CC,

Are you as charming and amusing in real life?

Do you find people avoid you? Your intelligent contributions are overwhelming. Please go back to the closet and meditate once again. Who knows, you might meet some of your friends there i.e. those with whom you are happiest.

JB.

I thought T. Blair was a tory mole, who led the Labour Party astray.

To me he was and still is an international disaster and responsible for much of the present problems in the Middle East problems.

Also, I think egocentric and delusional.

If you are old enough, refer back to the 1998-2007 period of economic growth and individual materialistic growth, Germany and France were almost in recession for large periods of that time with higher % unemployment.

During that period, even if GB had attempted to reform banking sector and make changes to the financial institutions in the "City", they would have been rejected by the City and the populace in general.

Whether, or not, he was aware of the depth of the presenting problems in the financial markets, I don't know. Those suggesting any ideas of harnessing the "financial institutions, were barracked, or howled down.

Many of those on these threads did very well buying and selling property and/or trading a bullish run in the markets. (I thought it could not continue, but didnt expect the crazy period to last for so long.)

A bit like MacMillan's "You have never had it so good period", or the Maggie period for those making money, during the selloff of the "Country's Silver" at the same time letting the countrys infrastructure crumble.

I think governments, in general, try to improve a country for all, some more so than others, but governing is the art of the obtaining what is possible.

Tabs,

Dont smoke, but if you tell me which words you had problems with; I will try to help you. 8-)

Just heard; Osborne (you know of Stan and Laurel fame), says tories have and economic policy for the future.

(Is there a phrase, Back to the Future.)

Comparing him with Gordon Brown giving evidence to the Commons liaison committee, Osborne is just a whipper snapper. Mind he knows how to claim for taxies.

Anyone following the Chilcot enquiries ?

OK being serious for a change.

In my previous profession I had the pleasure of working with people from all areas of the UK. What I particularly liked was the differences in accents coupled with the many different words for things. For example twitchell, snickit, ten foot, ginal all meaning a footpath or passageway. There are of course many other examples. I love these differences. I would hate it if we all spoke and sounded the same.
Of course I appreciate that being from Nottingham, it is us that speak proper.

Good God, He speaks as well as writes.

Watch out, there is a Greek about!
