PIPEX COMMUNICATIONS - TIPPED FOR 2004 (PXC)

moneyman - 03 Jan 2004 20:03

Tipped by the independent 2/01/2004

........."And so to our traditional "wild card". Pipex Communications, formerly known as GX Networks, is a telecoms company created by one of the entrepreneurs behind Ukbetting, Peter Dubens. It has been assembled from six smaller players. The ambitious company is generating cash for the first time but is still not widely followed in the City. It could be an undiscovered gem".

Pipex takes on BT in Net-calls price war
07 December 2004

BROADBAND firm Pipex Communications yesterday said it was gearing up for an Internet-call price war with BT in the new y ear. .

The fast-growing company, which has more than 400,000 broadband customers, yesterday launched a cut-price voiceover-Internet service for small businesses and said it would be offering a similar service for households "early next year".

Calls on the Internet are far cheaper than those made over the traditional wires controlled by BT.

BT already offers calls on the Net but customers must plug a BT Communicator device into their PC and pay the full BT rate if they call someone on a normal phone. Calls are free only between PCs.

Pipex will offer much cheaper prices than BT and will launch in the UK around the same time as US rival Vonage, which has aggressive expansion plans for the UK.

Customers must have broadband connections to make reasonable quality Internet calls but with the number of UK broadband homes soaring above 5million, Pipex and Vonage believe there is now a big enough market to go for.

This is good news. I would like the share price to reflect this !!!

maddriver - 09 Dec 2004 08:11 - 838 of 1874

Hi, Just had a look at Pipex's VOIP offering for my day job. Seems to have call charges to fixed lines about half the cost of our current fixed line supplier. Not to mention free minutes in a line rental bundle. Will have to compare calls to mobiles tho. Can see that being very appealing to small / medium cos.

BT do offer a simular service, but it seems to me its aimed at larger companies (BT Starts at 10 users Pipex starts at one.) Will be looking round today to see if theres any other competitors.

Details and pricing here http://www.pipex.net/products/voip/

This has gone quiet. I'd like to know would anyone still invest in this stock? I'm sure it will be tipped for 2005 but this board seems mostly negative. Would any holders advise newbies to try this share?

moneyplus - 25 Dec 2004 19:12 - 842 of 1874

Got tired of waiting myself but suspect these will pay off in the end for those who are happy to hold long term. I sold and invested in EVS similar share narrowing losses and 2.5p so hopefully potential to make some good gains in 2005. DYOR and happy new year investing.

JohnEWunda - 25 Dec 2004 21:18 - 843 of 1874

Thanks MP.I'm in NSB and that seems a similar share. Shareholders have had a long wait, fundamentals seem sound and is cash generative but the sp isn't budging. With NSB though there should be an update in Jan at least, so it will either be a feast or a famine!

Troys - 06 Jan 2005 15:11 - 844 of 1874

someone seems happy to buy. seeing 5,000,000 of buys. Would like to see these move now

Is it the wind of change after a winter of discontent

queen1 - 06 Jan 2005 17:38 - 846 of 1874

I hope so as I dipped in for the first time today at 8.2p.

dclinton - 06 Jan 2005 18:54 - 847 of 1874

It lives! I was beginning to despair of ever seeing the price move again.

Troys - 07 Jan 2005 08:44 - 848 of 1874

Blue again !!

skyhigh - 07 Jan 2005 08:48 - 849 of 1874

Is this the start of an upward trend or another false dawn ?... here's hoping for the upward trend (at last) :)

Oakapples142 - 07 Jan 2005 09:48 - 850 of 1874

Agreed I am even optomistic enough to think that the 3.5 mil transaction was a buy at 8.25p earlier to-day and not an "not known"!!!
