THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

In todays Daily Telegraph it is reported that Gordon Brown want Police forces to be named and shamed if their Police Officers are not 'On The Beat' for at least 80% of their time.

Who does this wally of a PM think he is kidding. This is the Government who has created multiple bundles of red tape that the Police have to comply with. The Conservatives were equally as bad, as they were in power when this mountain of red tape was first started.

Whilst there will always be police officers who 'skive' most want to get back on the beat.

During my service I hated being inside doing paperwork.

I will give just one example of how things have changed in this respect.

When I joined in 1977 a simple crime/disorder file consisted of 3 short forms (about 20 minutes). When I retired in 2003 the simplest file contained 23 separate forms, (about 3 to 4 hours) most of these being for government statistics.

Also we had local police stations cells. Now we have centralised cell blocks, some are up to 46 miles from a police station. I have arrested many villains, taking them up to 46 miles to a central lock-up, returning another 46 miles to the area of the crime to make enquiries/statements. returned to the lock-up to interview, then returned to my station a total of 184 miles. And sometimes if during interview something unknown came up, it would be another round trip to clarify that point/fact.
Before so called efficient central lock-ups the furthest I had to travel with a prisoner was at the most 10 miles.

Now you can easily see why you don't see police on patrol!

And whilst I am on a rant, how about this for a reason why crime is increasing ( don't believe government statistics, they are a fiddle 'That I can prove').

A 22 year old man attacked a youth with a bottle causing what the CID officer described as a vicious unprovoked attack, inflicting injuries that only just missed his victims jugular artery. A surgeon said that there were two life threatening injuries and the victim was luck to be alive. So this was nearly a murder trial.
The assailant had earlier been involved in an augment with the victim. He had then got into a Taxi, but returned to the area later armed with a bottle, so this proved premeditation.

The sentence.....12 month suspended sentence, a supervisory order for 2 year and 300 hours community service. Also compensation to the victim that will no doubt be paid of at couple of s a week for the next 100 years.

A police spokesman said, "I would invite people to remember this case and consider how much alcohol is too much".

He should have said, 'This sentence is a joke, and so is the judge'.

THANKS FOR THAT GREEKMAN.

MightyMicro - 01 Mar 2010 23:00 - 8426 of 81564

Greekman: Thanks for that. My own experience of individual police officers has always been positive. Frankly, I believe the top brass should have resisted all this nonsense being imposed upon them much more vigorously. As in " no, Home Secretary, f*ck off, we have a job to do." ACPO take note.

Returning to brazen lying twa** ..Aitken was fighting for his very political life, and as such, was merely a member of the liars club; but his superior has to be that bloody awful individual - LORD Jeffrey Archer -whose utterly immoral . corrupt, cheating lying ways knew no bounds. -from lying about silly matters like attending Oxford as an undergraduate, to paying ladies of the night at train stations in order theydissappear, to ripping off charities......and yet when in el clinko he was busily jaunting off to dinner with the family .l cannot imagine any of us would be recipients of such good grace from the Home Office where any of us to end up in HMP Dont drop the soaps ville ...His prescence caused the Strangeways riot would you believe ?? ;-))...................,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,...Fred -GEEKMAN - As a former student i was regularly on the barricades. Awww Dont get me going about Judges. l think a prerequisite of that job is senility subtly blended with utter and total stupidity, arrogance and aloofness . l personally know of an individual who was sent to jail for 28 days for failing to return a library book ( which under common law constitutes theft ) yet the same judge handed out suspended sentances to a group of individuals involved in mutli million fraud . And he was a Recorder of a major province-..at best the judiciary is arbitrary and random .At worst ... l dare not say...........

greekman - 02 Mar 2010 07:15 - 8429 of 81564

Thanks TFC,

I do like your definition of a judge (senility subtly blended with utter and total stupidity, arrogance and aloofness).

greekman - 02 Mar 2010 08:44 - 8431 of 81564

mnamreh,

I fully agree. I have been before many Judges (never as a defendant, I hasten to add) both good and bad.
My feelings on most trials is such a magnitude of 'none evidence' is allowed.

Take the present case of Radovan Karadzic and the past trial of Slobodan Miloević, how can these trials justify their length. Well over 90% of so called evidence given should not be allowed. Surely there is sufficient evidence that can be heard or refuted within months to either convict or not.
I have often been in court when the evidence presented could be cut by well over 75%, especially in serious cases. Who cares if the defendant went to grammar school or comprehensive, lived in a terrace house or detached or once was cautioned by Police for breaking a window. These are the stupid questions allowed in trials such as murder/rape. What does it matter, it is irrelevant. It is just a game between lawyers/barristers and the rest of the legal paraphernalia.
Most juries could easily make their minds up within the first few days (and most of them do) whether the defendant committed the crime or not.
The problem judges have is that if they don't allow almost anything, they leave themselves open to criticism and a re-trial.

NOC,

Where are you from?

TheFrenchConnection - 08 Mar 2010 14:20 - 8434 of 81564

By the sound of it -somewhere sensible .Somewhere where political correctness has not strangled freedom of speech . . The UK is a tiny northern europeon lsland with limited resources and unlimited debt; and, in short, can ill afford the crazy numbers of asylum seekers bent on exploiting the entire housing/ healthcare/ benefits system .For a start how many cannot even speak the most basic of English ? ..How many have criminal records ?How many come from countries were life is cheap and whose social mores clash violently with the host country ? But whats the point in whining now ? The damage was done a generation ago by mainstream political parties of all shades ; so much so that a Trojan horse sits in most cities and towns of the UK .Social engineering ,via the popular media, has totally manipulated public opinion So much so that even blacks.lndians and Pakistanies actually perceive themselves as English and complain themselves about the level of immigration. Recently in some armpit of the UK the Pakistani community took to the streets complaining about the number of Armenians that were being allowed into the UK on the grounds that their women were being harrassed by said Armenians .........................the time has come for alternating tory/labour administrations to end . Neither has proven worthy and both responsible for this so called " multi racial state - which very few of the ordinary people want.

I happend to be awake in the eraly hours today and had the (mis)fortune to watch this dispatches - first shown last Monday. Britain's Islamic Republic

Dispatches investigates a fundamentalist Islamic group headquartered in Britain, and its claims to have placed its 'brothers' in positions of political power here.
Using undercover recordings, investigative journalist Andrew Gilligan reveals the group's ambitions to create a worldwide 'Islamic social and political order,' and the concerns of a mainstream party that they are being 'infiltrated'; and talks to the Muslims who want to stop it.

TFC,

Living in such a beautiful part of France I find it strange to hold on to ideas belonging to the Mosely Brownshirts in the thirties, BNP and seemingly some of UKIP now.

Perhaps, you are influenced by Jean-Marie Le Pen and his Right wing party, but I thought the French had rejected his odd ideas.

Anyway you got something right.

I spent many months a year for 4 years in and around Domme, Sarlat and St Cyprien.

I was hoping to live there, but as an "ranger" think it wiser not to.
.

Chris Carson - 09 Mar 2010 03:26 - 8437 of 81564

Fred - I can hear the huge sigh of relief reverberating from accross the Channel as we speak! :o))

greekman - 09 Mar 2010 07:00 - 8438 of 81564

This has little to do with racism, Fascism, BNP and the like, they are in the minority, but as matters escalate things will get worse.
The problem we have is that our islands are vastly overcrowded. We have about the same population as France with half the land size.
And remember, feelings regarding immigration are also running high in that country, I wonder how much that would escalate if they had the same overcrowding problem as the UK.
My solution would be to stop ALL immigration unless it would benefit this country, and that is immigration from all countries.
As to Islam, I read an excellent article a few months ago with a title that I can not recall, but it was mainly stating facts, one of these was that if the rate of Muslim and other so called minority groups births in this country continued at it's present rate and the white British birth rate continued to decline at the present rate, by 2035 the white British population would become the minority.

One Muslim official, was quoted as saying something along the lines of, 'We don't need to use violence in the UK for Islam to take over, we can do it through having many children'.

If anyone doubts this, go onto the governments census site and look at the breakdown of births.

If this country was a lifeboat, we would be sinking rapidly. Population control is now recognised as one of the biggest threat to the UK and the world, even by the (if you say anything you are racist) government.
Too little, too late.

When push comes to shove we all fight our corner, we and the country can only take so much.
