indeed, though there is an element of truth that the baghdad boys will be as obstructive as possible with regards to granting export permission

probably more like 2/3 years, but peeps don't like uncertainty and more to the point, sp had bolted away on no new news ..... only 3/4 days ago, we would have been more than happy with sp at current level or even at 90/95

A bit off subject....I reckon we are heading for a dollar slump like $1.80 or even $1.90 to the pound.....and that could put the WTI (crude) up.....and that could trigger upgrades for production oil stocks....not saying I'm 100 percent sure of this but it's a possibility.

The problem is whether the market has another big discovery priced in or not....if it hasn't and they announce another strike of a decent size : up the sp will go....if not down we go but by how much and at what price will this stabilise before the other block gets spudded (drilling)...all guesswork...

Don't forget to factor in the political risk, Baghdad will still have a say in what is happening in Kurdistan.

it would be logical that although the government have had their noses put out of joint....they surely cant give up revenue from a resource that they will base the countries economy on for years to come....so would face great pressure to get on with things.....and if the find is as large as stated.....the pressure is greater.....pun

Gulf Keystone edges down
Peter Stiff: Smaller companies
Shares in Gulf Keystone Petroleum fell by more than 8 per cent yesterday after its partner on an Iraqi oil well said that more caution was needed when estimating reserves at the find.
MOL, an Hungarian oil group that holds a 20 per cent stake in the Shaikan-1 exploration well in the Kurdish region of Iraq, said that a more accurate evaluation of the project would not be completed until late 2010. Local media reported MOL as saying that, based on the first test results at the well, the find could be considered a significant discovery but that it was not possible to quantify reserves yet. Shares in Gulf Keystone, which hit a high on Tuesday, fell 10p to 114p.
