The problem is whether the market has another big discovery priced in or not....if it hasn't and they announce another strike of a decent size : up the sp will go....if not down we go but by how much and at what price will this stabilise before the other block gets spudded (drilling)...all guesswork...

Don't forget to factor in the political risk, Baghdad will still have a say in what is happening in Kurdistan.

it would be logical that although the government have had their noses put out of joint....they surely cant give up revenue from a resource that they will base the countries economy on for years to come....so would face great pressure to get on with things.....and if the find is as large as stated.....the pressure is greater.....pun

Gulf Keystone edges down
Peter Stiff: Smaller companies
Shares in Gulf Keystone Petroleum fell by more than 8 per cent yesterday after its partner on an Iraqi oil well said that more caution was needed when estimating reserves at the find.
MOL, an Hungarian oil group that holds a 20 per cent stake in the Shaikan-1 exploration well in the Kurdish region of Iraq, said that a more accurate evaluation of the project would not be completed until late 2010. Local media reported MOL as saying that, based on the first test results at the well, the find could be considered a significant discovery but that it was not possible to quantify reserves yet. Shares in Gulf Keystone, which hit a high on Tuesday, fell 10p to 114p.

Oil in Place figure potentially down to 1 billion, and no mentioning the recovery factor.
With OOIP of `1 billion and recovery 50% thats down to just 500m barrels and then of course whats the percentage for GKP ?? A lot less of that total.
No wonder MOL were encouraging caution, too many people were getting too carried away perhaps.

Make no mistake this company has hit the jackpot here and probably more discoveries to come...and there are more blocks to be drilled...

There is a lot more in the next year to come from this company but when and what is only known by the company themselves....if you haven't sold earlier then probably the best thing is to buy and hold....and wait for final testing and the spudding of the new well in the next block.

There are the issues of license validity, and can they ever sell the oil etc... so its not "plain sailing" as some like to pretend it is.
Recovery factor is key to making any assumptions, and they are going to withhold this.
Quite a number of question marks out there and one should not see this as a "no risk" stock.

Its the Total depth report that counts. I believe the estimates are precautionary at this stage until the finals are determined. But must say looks good.
