THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

ExecLine - 18 Mar 2010 08:31 - 8571 of 81564

Erm.....,err....., well, it's perhaps best to take care on the A1 near Wetherby, particularly if you are in a Clio....

ExecLine,

I am a voluntary tutor for RosPa the advanced driver training group.
i have sent this to other members.

Perhaps the lorry driver should either come to us, specsavers (what an advert) or both.

Hope the Government don't see the You Tube clip, they are just daft enough to link it with CO2 reducing.

Reduce your Vehicle Excise Duty now. Get a lift from a passing lorry.

It appears the You Tube link has been removed.
Presumably the car driver or someone else was injured. If so fair enough.
If not I can't understand why, unless the poster has requested it (I understand they can do this) and is thinking of a way to make some cash out of the clip.

ExecLine - 19 Mar 2010 09:03 - 8579 of 81564

I believe the event is being investigated by the police and also the trucker's employers.

I have read that the distance travelled with the two vehicles connected together was about half a mile. The lady driver in the Clio must have been frightened to bits and was seen braking (brake lights on in the video clip) and also heard sounding her horn.

I would think it has been felt necessary to check the truck driver out more thoroughly.

Careless driving? Probably a Yes.

Carless driving? Definitely a No. Teeheehee. :-)

greekman - 19 Mar 2010 09:06 - 8580 of 81564

Yes, that would be a very valid reason to remove the video, as if it goes to court any witnesses/jury (if danger our driving) could be influenced.

Fred1new - 19 Mar 2010 09:30 - 8581 of 81564

Was it a set up?

Filmed with the lorry reversing and then played backwards?

Only trying to get Exec's circulation going.

8-)

MightyMicro - 19 Mar 2010 09:31 - 8582 of 81564

The video is still up on YouTube.

This_is_me - 19 Mar 2010 10:24 - 8583 of 81564

Criminals are sent to gaol to be punished not to be reformed.

The logic of being sent to prison to be reformed would mean the potential of someone going there for the rest of their life because they never were reformed from the time they got that parkng ticket. On the other hand if a murderer was sent to prison to be reformed she could be released the next day after being reformed.

On a more serious note!

Rt Hon David Miliband MP
Secretary of State.

Dear Secretary of State,

My friend, who is in farming at the moment, recently received a cheque for 3,000 from the Rural Payments Agency for not rearing pigs.. I would now like to join the "not rearing pigs" business.

In your opinion, what is the best kind of farm not to rear pigs on, and which is the best breed of pigs not to rear? I want to be sure I approach this endeavour in keeping with all government policies, as dictated by the EU under the Common Agricultural Policy.

I would prefer not to rear bacon pigs, but if this is not the type you want not rearing, I will just as gladly not rear porkers. Are there any advantages in not rearing rare breeds such as Saddlebacks or Gloucester Old Spots, or are there too many people already not rearing these?

As I see it, the hardest part of this program will be keeping an accurate record of how many pigs I haven't reared. Are there any Government or Local Authority courses on this?

My friend is very satisfied with this business. He has been rearing pigs for forty years or so, and the best he ever made on them was 1,422 in 1968. That is - until this year, when he received a cheque for not rearing any.

If I get 3,000 for not rearing 50 pigs, will I get 6,000 for not rearing 100? I plan to operate on a small scale at first, holding myself down to about 4,000 pigs not raised, which will mean about 240,000 for the first year. As I become more expert in not rearing pigs, I plan to be more ambitious, perhaps increasing to, say, 40,000 pigs not reared in my second year, for which I should expect about 2.4 million from your department. Incidentally, I wonder if I would be eligible to receive tradable carbon credits for all these pigs not producing harmful and polluting methane gases?

Another point: These pigs that I plan not to rear will not eat 2,000 tonnes of cereals. I understand that you also pay farmers for not growing crops. Will I qualify for payments for not growing cereals to not feed the pigs I don't rear?

I am also considering the "not milking cows" business, so please send any information you have on that too. Please could you also include the current Defra advice on set aside fields? Can this be done on an e-commerce basis with virtual fields (of which I seem to have several thousand hectares)?

In view of the above you will realise that I will be totally unemployed, and will therefore qualify for unemployment benefits. I shall of course be voting for your party at the next general election.
Yours faithfully,

Nigel Johnson-Hill

This-is-me,

Re Pigs....Very funny post, but could it be true.

Re Crime and Punishment.

One way to save money is to not send to prison those defendant who during their trial state they are reformed characters. I have heard the same story many times, 'My client the defendant has realised the error of his/her ways. He/She had a difficult childhood, and from a very early age was lead astray (the are never those that lead others). He/She is now in employment, is totally committed to a drug/alcohol rehabilitation programme. In fact he/she has joined a local youth support group and has even joined several charities and the local church choir.
He/She is soon to become a father/mother and is looking forward to becoming a parent. If he/she is sent to prison, he/she will not be able to care for his/her elderly mother/father,cat, rabbit and next doors goldfish etc.

My client requests that he/she be given community service as he/she feels that he/she should put something back in the society that he/she has so abused.

Cut to sobs from client, sniggering from his/her mates in the gallery, a wimpish magistrate/weak judge and the slap on the wrist that usually follows (not to hard though, remember the Human Right Act).

Many who expect to be sent down, go out and take any job they can get, get pregnant or get their partner pregnant, join a rehab group and all the rest. It's a game that they often win.

I would suggest to anyone who has never sat in a magistrates/crown court to do so. Most will have made their mind up/guilty or innocent within minutes, and will be gob smacked at most sentencing.

Some trials are better than a TV Sit Com.

Note....... In case you have not guessed already, the reference to Goldfish was made up. Reference to all the other ploys, including the cat, rabbit are from personal experience, when the defendant was allowed his final plea against sentence.

Chris Carson - 19 Mar 2010 13:54 - 8586 of 81564

Greek - And of course lest we forget, all of the above defendants are stout defenders of LEGAL AID, you couldn't make it up! :o)

ExecLine - 19 Mar 2010 13:58 - 8587 of 81564

CC

Slightly wrong there with that observation IMHO. How about the following:

"All the defendants' solicitors are stout defenders of LEGAL AID."

Chris Carson - 19 Mar 2010 14:00 - 8588 of 81564

Exec - Exactly! :o)))
