Gulf Keystone edges down

Peter Stiff: Smaller companies

Shares in Gulf Keystone Petroleum fell by more than 8 per cent yesterday after its partner on an Iraqi oil well said that more caution was needed when estimating reserves at the find.

MOL, an Hungarian oil group that holds a 20 per cent stake in the Shaikan-1 exploration well in the Kurdish region of Iraq, said that a more accurate evaluation of the project would not be completed until late 2010. Local media reported MOL as saying that, based on the first test results at the well, the find could be considered a significant discovery but that it was not possible to quantify reserves yet. Shares in Gulf Keystone, which hit a high on Tuesday, fell 10p to 114p.

Rns out.....plenty of oil that's for sure down to 2055m....still drilling with more reserves to be added as drilling continues....they are still evaluating what they have discovered...

Oil in Place figure potentially down to 1 billion, and no mentioning the recovery factor.

With OOIP of `1 billion and recovery 50% thats down to just 500m barrels and then of course whats the percentage for GKP ?? A lot less of that total.

No wonder MOL were encouraging caution, too many people were getting too carried away perhaps.

Make no mistake this company has hit the jackpot here and probably more discoveries to come...and there are more blocks to be drilled...

watcher - 22 Oct 2009 09:26 - 869 of 5505

cup half full or cup half empty that is the way i see it......be picking more up if it goes much lower......drill yet to be completed

There is a lot more in the next year to come from this company but when and what is only known by the company themselves....if you haven't sold earlier then probably the best thing is to buy and hold....and wait for final testing and the spudding of the new well in the next block.

Proselenes - 22 Oct 2009 12:05 - 871 of 5505

There are the issues of license validity, and can they ever sell the oil etc... so its not "plain sailing" as some like to pretend it is.

Recovery factor is key to making any assumptions, and they are going to withhold this.

Quite a number of question marks out there and one should not see this as a "no risk" stock.

Thanks skinny.

Its the Total depth report that counts. I believe the estimates are precautionary at this stage until the finals are determined. But must say looks good.

watcher - 25 Oct 2009 03:24 - 875 of 5505

must be getting close to drill completion.....i would like to see confirmation that the s.p. holds if not creeps away from the 100p level....should be an interesting week ahead...either way......

capetown - 25 Oct 2009 22:36 - 876 of 5505

CYNIC,hats off to you for selling some @130 ish.
Still holding here.

watcher - 27 Oct 2009 22:32 - 877 of 5505

fought hard to stay above 100p today......so see what tomorrow brings.....is the record stuck or am i becoming the expectant dad......walking the corridor.....waiting with both fingers crossed....hoping for a healthy future...

marni - 29 Oct 2009 16:08 - 878 of 5505
