THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

With reference to the 'bankers tax'. when first muted AD stated that as it was intended to be a deterrent to persuade banks to forgo these bonuses, and that if it raised anything at all it should be looked at as a failure. His estimate was 500,000,000 max.
As this tax has raised 2,000,000,000 it is obviously a failure X 4, and yet he touted it as if it was a personal success.

I appreciate he had no room to give anything away, but I was waiting for far more detail on where savings were coming from, quangos, think tanks, and all the other public bodies out there waisting money.

It was announced yesterday that for the first time, public sector workers now account for over 50% of the work force. Not saying that there are not many public sector workers who don't work hard and earn their money, but as we all know there are now far more 'jobs for the boys' with the number of chiefs forever increasing faster than the Indians.

Also the bit about Tax Dodgers got me. I wonder if it includes all those MP's who did not pay CGT on their second homes (because they switched prior to sale) or the tax not paid on their fiddled expenses (they were allowed tax exemptions on allowances that they were not entitled to). And many of these schemes are avoidance which will never be as wrong as dodging (fiddling). Pot, kettle, black, springs to mind.

Fiddling B******s

What a way to run a country.

Greek.

If the tories were to be elected the phrase, "you ain't seen anything yet" comes to mind.

What is needed is a coalition government to :

1) sort out expenses
2) lobbying
3) making all full time MPs on salaries raised to reasonable levels.
4) accommodation provided of appropriate standard (Pentoville)
4) deal with the house of lords and provide a smaller ? elected house in place for six years
5) sort out party financing (limiting the total amount for elections canvassing and advertising.
6) face up to economic problems
7) address taxation and avoidance
8) bring in proportional representation
9) Introduce fixed term government.

That would be a start!

Fredat your ageflowers must scare you?.

greekman - 24 Mar 2010 17:43 - 8713 of 81564

Fred,

I would be all for a coalition government, if it worked, but they never appear to work in peace time as they all pull in different directions and achieve little. Coalitions in wartime are different, due to them all wanting the same thing. Whilst I appreciate they all want to get the country back on track they all have huge differences in policy. In war time the differences re how to fight it are usually similar. Everything else takes a back seat.

As to if the Conservatives get in, "you ain't seen nothing yet", I think we will have to agree to disagree.
Whilst I have very little faith in any of them, I don't see how it is possible to make such a monumental cock-up as this current lot. They continue to blame it as a world crisis, but if they had not gone running round like demented idiots who had got hold of an open cheque book, whilst times were good, we would be far better positioned to get back on track.

So I will vote Conservative, just to get this lot out, and I am dumbfounded that the gap in the poles is narrowing.

Not sure what to make of it.

Just tried to post the following on a competitors site. The post was rejected due to inappropriate language.

MsKalaBoy,

You state, It's probably not easy for a government, especially one as inept as ours, to promote a technology which is not yet commercial.

If Messers Brown Darling had been around in 8,000 B.C. we would probably be still waiting for them to approve the invention of the wheel.

Muppets the lot of them.

It was accepted when I substituted the word Useless for Muppets.

Am I missing something re the word Muppets, as I know of no way this word can be used as inappropriate.

The only problem is working out who is who :-)

Mnamreh,

No I think you are right, striking similarities. GB has to be the big brown one near top right hand corner.
William Hague must be the yellowy, bald one with glasses.

Fred1new - 25 Mar 2010 09:54 - 8720 of 81564

Greek,

"
If Messers Brown Darling had been around in 8,000 B.C. we would probably be still waiting for them to approve the invention of the wheel."

Interesting.

Yet many tories are condemning the expense of introducing IT into the NHS, Police service etc.

Not saying they weren't hood winked by the various IT "consultants" when initial contracts were sign.

"I think the method of introduction was crazy for a multiple of reasons, and have friends who worked on the various systems at various times."

But I had a retinoscopy a day ago, and was amazed that I was able to see the image instantaneously and compare it on screen with those in the data base.

Also, bring up records of previous problems.

A year ago it was chaos attempting to do so.

The costs of the system use on me was about 25,000. (I am referring to the camera and viewer only.)

The overall cost of the NHS should have been pruned early and certainly carried out on pilots initially.

The potential advantages of ID computerisation is enormous, especially in various forms of fraud including benefit fraud.

But it will enable many things include money movement in fraud and other forms of villainy.

Fred1new - 25 Mar 2010 10:07 - 8721 of 81564

Greek,

Going on a bit, one of the problems with developing software is the increasing for the service due partially to the increase in the details of information and the correlation of that information.

I found this problematic when I wrote programs (simple) 15years ago.

Chris Carson - 25 Mar 2010 10:42 - 8722 of 81564

Fred - Re NHS perhaps in common with those unfortunate to be admitted to our hospitals the Tories are more concerned about the welfare of said patients due to a lack of basic hygiene on the wards and the risk of infection to human beings rather than technology. Pointless having sophisticated, megga technology if patients admittted to our hospitals are dying as a result of super bugs. Back to basics dont you think! Delighted to hear your eyesiight may be improving, any chance you may become less blind ?

tabasco - 25 Mar 2010 10:48 - 8723 of 81564

Idiom Definitions for 'None so blind as those who will not see'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This idiom is used when people refuse to accept facts presented to them. ('None so deaf as those who will not hear' is an alternative.)

I'll get me coat !
