Stan - 24 May 2017 10:21 - 950 of 974

Although sales remained steady, Marks & Spencer reported a 64% plunge in profits for the year to 1 April after taking a £437.4m hit mainly from changes to its pension scheme, international stores, and UK head office. Keeping the full year dividend at 18.7p, chief executive Steve Rowe outlined causes for optimism as the general merchandise arm' market share started to stabilise and the food business continued to grow like topsy.

midknight - 24 May 2017 11:27 - 951 of 974

The directors have proposed a final dividend in respect of the year
ended 1 April 2017 of 11.9p per share (last year 11.9p). The shares
will go ex-dividend on 1 June 2017.

They will not exist in 2/3 years, sadly old fossils on the board that have not moved with the times. Another company that has sat and watched sales go out the door. Poor clothes and expensive.

SP hasn't exactly bombed. Maybe investors hanging on for the divi a week today.

Profits were ahead of forecasts.

SP has been hammered, doom and gloom around retail sector. MKS reporting next Wednesday 8th. Any good news could ignite SP. Worth a punt long on the spreads even if it manages to climb back up to within lower bollinger band. Went long @ 328.90 tight stop.

NXT has been badly clattered yet again ...... a good indicator why high street fashion stocks are best avoided ..... and as far as i am concerned that also includes MKS, BRBY and SPG

Chris Carson - 01 Nov 2017 16:51 - 958 of 974

Well good for you, no sense of humour obviously :0)

Maybe the header should read £2 coming soon, dismal results and not likely to get better any time soon imo, unless they receive an approach.

July AGM will see these two women re-appointed by shareholder vote ( although as with many Co's the Proxy-Vote is kept in case the public shareholders make a wrong choice.)... I just hope these aren't being included to reduce the ratio M/F... It is surprising that a Co which tries to sell clothes to Women, fails to have women of that age on the Board. I presume, but cannot be certain, the young buyers are mostly women - but want to offer designs that are close to "in fashion" - with no regard to the needs of the older customers that need a degree of support and evasion to look good at the end of a long day's shopping with the grandchildren.

I heard on the radio M&S were to shut many stores as a re-organisation programme . . . yet I only see RNS dealing with these appointments . . . . maybe I need to delve deeper . . . but why bother? This Co isn't going to change overnight -and the effect of any change will be quite slow . . . . the do no have anyone to effect a radical change from their past-working.

100 outlets going!!!

The Bell Weather for retail just another victim of the modern trends in fashion and poor vision.

Back as a kid I went out with my dear old mum shopping in M&S

Told her that the fashion was awful for a young man.

Now forty years later as an older man it still the fricking same.

Competition has exploded the myth with M&S

ExecLine - 23 May 2018 00:35 - 964 of 974

I haven't shopped for food in M&S for ages now so won't miss them much.

We used to buy their Indian and Chinese 'deals' but stopped a couple of years ago when they changed their supplier - to the negative.

I would take a guess I last bought some clothes from them, roughly back in about 2010.

One recipe for success in any business is to try to use the formula, 'Different, Better Cheaper'. A combination of offering just two of these creates a certain winning formula but M&S don't even have one of these criteria, IMHO. They are the same or worse and more expensive with most things they sell.

At one time they were famous for 'underwear' but their men's underpants nowadays are most reliable for failing to stay up and are truly useless. If you don't believe me, ask Jeremy Paxman. He really took them to task about it several years ago but nothing was changed.

KidA - 23 May 2018 10:54 - 965 of 974

Everyday underpants and socks; Uniqlo.

Base t-shirts; Muji.

People have moved on to better offerings; they will pop back a couple of times then you have lost them.

Being shorted heavily . Reading the DM, shorts account for 17% of stock.
