CERES POWER...fuel cell energy revolution is about to become real (CWR)

maestro - 01 Dec 2006 10:00

Soon to be in mass production...the technology works like no other

RNS Number:0376N Ceres Power Holdings plc 01 December 2006

Ceres Power Holdings plc
('Ceres', 'Ceres Power' or the 'Company')

Technical Update: Key Performance and Durability Targets Achieved

Ceres Power, the AIM-quoted fuel cell group, is today providing an update on the progress achieved in the development of its unique patented fuel cell technology. Ceres' continued focus is to utilise its technology to deliver a set of commercially viable products that can be mass manufactured and meet a clear market need.

Rigorous testing of the fuel cell stacks has demonstrated that the required levels of durability and performance can be delivered for the market applications it is targeting, namely domestic combined heat and power (CHP) boilers, off-grid generators and auxiliary power units (APUs).

SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION TO DATE OF MORE THAN 7,500 HOURS OF FUEL CELL STACK testing, reflecting the unique design and the use of well-proven manufacturing techniques

TESTING OF MORE THAN 50 STACKS OF UP TO 1KW POWER OUTPUT WITH REPEATED THERMAL cycling (on/off) between room temperature (20oC) and operating temperature (600oC) without performance degradation

STACK TESTING ON A RANGE OF COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE FUELS INCLUDING NATURAL gas, LPG and propane demonstrating the capability to meet the performance requirements of a wide range of target market applications

VALIDATION OF STACK MANUFACTURING AND ASSEMBLY PROCESSES WITH MORE THAN 1,000 stack sub-assemblies constructed with a zero failure rate.
As a result of the performance demonstrated during the testing programme our core stack technology has been frozen. This technology will be appropriate for power outputs between 0.5kW and 5kW.

Integrated fuel cell systems have also been demonstrated by coupling lightweight, compact stacks and fuel processors with other key balance of plant components for our planned domestic CHP applications. Our focus is now on completing the designs of end-user products.

As announced at the preliminary results in September, we are currently equipping a new product facility which is expected to be operational by mid-2007 and is designed to produce limited volumes of prototype products incorporating volume manufacturing solutions. These units will be used both for demonstrations and larger field trials. The facility will also be used to develop and validate the manufacturing and assembly processes prior to transfer to mass production.

The scale-up process has been substantially de-risked with the establishment of a supply chain to procure cell, stack and system components utilising technologies with well-proven design lives in excess of 10 years. We are already working closely with a number of OEMs to finalise the arrangements for volume assembly of products utilising fuel cell stacks that will be manufactured by Ceres at a 'mother plant' facility planned to be commissioned in mid-2008.

Peter Bance, Chief Executive of Ceres Power, commented:

"Our testing has demonstrated that our unique technology has overcome many of the obstacles faced by other fuel cell technologies and can deliver durable, efficient and cost effective mass market solutions. We are now focused on completing the design of commercial, compact end-user products."

simon...the market makers pumped it up on good news then sold and shorted it to 215p...if you noticed it went into auction around 4.25pm...this tells me the shorters closed out and bought back in long...blue day monday....the crooked barstards did it with Oxus a couple of days ago..i'd personally string em up and give em a good kickin..they deserve it

maestro - 03 Dec 2006 16:52 - 4 of 64

from the sunda y times today...hmmm billion pound company sounds nice

Ceres Power

THE fuel-cell specialist Ceres Power appears to have finally proved that its technology works. In an update last week, Ceres said that it had successfully completed a series of rigorous tests for its combined heat and power (CHP) fuel cell.

The CHP cell is effectively a micro power station producing heat and electricity which Ceres is aiming to use in a new generation of boilers. The CHP units should cost little more than conventional boilers. Another attraction is that the electricity produced is a by-product and effectively free for consumers.

Although Ceres has revenues of just 110,000 it is valued at 128m. But if it can turn its CHP unit into a mass-market product, analysts believe it could become a 1 billion business.

The shares have been volatile in the past year, but that is the price of investing in an area driven by sentiment. They will remain risky but, barring any technical disasters, Ceres could finally deliver in an area that has so often been built on hope.

Maestro,

Can we have a chart at the top of the thread ?

Ceres Power H1 pretax loss widens
AFX

(Corrects turnover figures, adds other operating income)

LONDON (AFX) - Ceres Power Holdings PLC reported a wider first-half pretax loss but said it looks forward to the future with confidence as the company approaches commercialisation.

The fuel cell company reported a pretax loss of 2.7 mln stg, against 1.8 mln stg year ago while turnover fell to 30,000 stg from 80,000 stg although rose overall with the inclusion of other operating income, which leapt to 469,000 stg from 148,000 stg the year before.

Separately, Ceres Power said it will receive over 600,000 stg from EDF Energy Networks, a unit of EDF, to design and build power generation appliances to provide back-up electricity for homes.

The company said this represents 50 pct share of the 1.2 mln stg costs of the first phase of the programme.

Ceres said the prototype products will be available for evaluation during 2008 and 2009.

any reason for todays sharp rise?

simon102 - 13 Jul 2007 17:26 - 9 of 64

NO!!!!! Just wish CFU would do the same!!!!

john wigglesworth - 14 Jul 2007 12:17 - 10 of 64

Citigroup is getting rather excited about the firm's combined heat and power plant. Things start off in a reasonably sane fashion as it looks at DCF valuations of 310-500p.
But then analyst Nick Williamson goes off the grid when he says: 'If international CHP and APUs (auxiliary power unit) opportunities come to fruition, our blue skies analysis suggests a per share valuation of c24, at a 10% WACC.'

Wall-mountable Fuel Cell CHP Unit Demonstration

Ceres Power, the AIM-quoted fuel cell group, announces that it has designed and
built an integrated, wall-mountable combined heat and power unit ('the CHP
Unit') which will form part of an up-coming demonstration at the Company's
headquarters. This technical achievement demonstrates the commercial potential
of the product and also represents an important milestone in the Company's
residential CHP programme with British Gas.

The compact and wall-mountable design will enable access to residential mass
markets in the UK and overseas. The integrated CHP Unit is capable of
generating electricity and all of the central heating and hot water requirements
of a typical home, avoiding the need for a separate boiler, and so can address
new build and replacement markets. The CHP Unit uses the same natural gas,
water and electricity connections as a boiler, and is thus easy to install.

Key balance of plant components within the CHP programme have been developed in
partnership with well-established volume manufacturers from industries
including automotive and white goods. The operating temperature (500-
600degreesC) of the unique Ceres Power fuel cell technology has enabled the use
of widely available and cost-effective raw materials, components and
manufacturing equipment.

The Company is now focused on value engineering of the CHP Unit and the scale-up
of core manufacturing processes to meet expected customer demand.

The Company will be inviting analysts to its Crawley headquarters on Tuesday
September 11th for a CHP demonstration, management presentation and tour of the
facilities. Following this event, the Company will also showcase the CHP
hardware at the London Stock Exchange on Friday September 14th.

Peter Bance, Chief Executive of Ceres Power, commented:

'Building on our established technology leadership, we have now developed the
product engineering capabilities and supply chain relationships that have
enabled us to demonstrate an integrated wall-mountable CHP Unit. Achievement of
this important milestone is a significant step forward in the commercialisation
of our unique technology.'
