Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

Hi Markymar,
As you say far more buys than sells, but i think that is just punters like myself topping up a tad, due to the sp looking a good price for yet another punts worth.
Did not quite call todays bottom, as bought at 281, but near enough. Of course Monday could see the sp drop yet again as those who won't see the RNS till later today might jump ship. But saying that there will be plenty of analytical comments from oil experts over the week-end, hopefully more positive than negative, in fact some reviews of the results are already doing the rounds from oil analysts, so Monday could see the sp go either way, (clever prediction that...sp up or down).
But imagine if this latest well had found oil in just sufficient quantities to be commercially viable, it would have been the sort of news that everyone, including myself would be ecstatic about.
As it turns out we are quite rightly disappointed.
Fast forward a few months......if and it is still a fairly big IF, the oil shows found in 14-10-3 are migrating from the discovery well Sea Lion 2, then this could turn out to be excellent news.
Far better a discovery (Seal Lion 2) that stretches over such a huge area (over 8 kilometers in one direction) than a separate just viable well.
Of course this is all wishful thinking, but the 'possibility' is there.
So not ecstatic, but after reading the RNS in depth, not that disappointed either.
Glass half full perhaps!
Note.... was hoping to open a good bottle of vino the evening after the RNS to celebrate, but as the RNS has left a fair bit of doubt, it will have to be a cheaper bit of plonk till/if the test results come in good.
Regards Greek.

I don't want to ramp but if the area is covered in oil...there could be 5 to 10 billion barrels of oil there....! 8 square kms is enormous !...it's a possibility....though perhaps 1 to 2 billion is more likely...

I think the market initial reaction was wrong and a very, very strong rebound could come as early as next week...Sold the rest of my DES and put into RKH...made a bad loss but put against juicy profits makes it much better overall.

Markymar,
With that RNS can't afford Tesco vino, will just about manage a Netto cheapy.
Required Field,
Looking at the best scenario, just think how much oil there would be if the field stretches 8 kms in all directions from the Sea Lion 2 drill.
Now that would warrant a good bottle of plonk.
Of course its all conjecture, the worse scenario is that there is no connection whatsoever.
Oilies must be one of the most frustrating sectors to be in.
Well have a good week-end all.
Greek.

Just think of the effect on the sp news that RKH are concentrating on bringing Sealion to production asap rather than sqandering shareholders funds on drilling dusters.

Well 14/10-3 was a bold outstep 8km to the north of the initial Sea Lion discovery well. As such we are not surprised if
initially at least, the drilling results seem to raise more questions than provide answers.
We take away that the reservoir section thins towards the northern source and while S3 seems to be in communication
with the main Sea Lion body to the south, S1 and S2 be must isolated from charge by internal seals.
The presence of a
good reservoir in S4, located on a deeper stratigraphic level than Sea Lion and sourced from a northernmost third entry
point, is an indication that other sand bodies, along the eastern edge of the basin, have also access to charge, even
though the extent of that trap might not be as significant.
Without further information we would assume that the P10-P90 range should narrow with P10 possibly decreasing;
however we are not necessarily assuming that P50 should change at this stage.
One thing to remember is that some
volume upside is almost guaranteed once the interpretation of the new 3D dataset covering the southern portion of the
Sea Lion lobe is available.
Hence we are not changing our forecasts and we see the negative share price reaction as a
buying opportunity.
Recommendation
We maintain our Buy rating with an unchanged 500p price target

Excellent write-up Marky.....there just has to be a serious rebound coming.....because most people here agree that this has upside...therefore this feeling should spread across all wannabe investors in this company.....

I too have invested a bit more and feel that there is a lot more developments to come with this particular 'oily'.
It would be good to know if the exploration company intends to develop this further before selling out ot a production company. I thought, rightly or wrongly, that they were only interested in 'finding the oil'

Had to go to Lille for a couple of days & just got back to find that RKH had hit the rocks & RRL had rocketed! Win some, lose some.
Have read through the posts for the last few days to bring myself up to speed and one thing springs to mind immediately. Many posters are seeing what they want to see rather than the obvious (for which I am sure I have been guilty in the past). This may be the outer limit of the Sea Lion formation, but until it's proven, surely it's best to assume it's not? Apologies to all RKH holders who are sitting on a loss. I had ARG (@40p) as my play on this attempt as I considered the risk too high with RKH.
