SEFTON RESOURCES INC - UNDERRATED OIL PRODUCER (SER)

ptholden - 04 Aug 2006 19:53

???

Sefton Resources is an independent AIM quoted Oil and Gas company operating in the US. The companys principal current assets are two producing oilfields in California (Tapia Canyon Field and Eureka Canyon Field); it is also in the process of buying up prospective coal bed methane acreage (CBM) in Kansas.

Update from July 2007 AGM

Finance

I revealed in my annual statement that discussions were well advanced with
Banking institutions. The final phase of the agreement with a suitable bank
without complex and restrictive terms is now very near. This is weeks away
rather than months.

Oil

Oil production at Tapia has averaged 4,100 BO during the last five months. Which
is in line with last years levels. Once this finance is in place we will be able
to move ahead with drilling.

Drilling

We have stayed close to drilling contractors and we are ready to move forward
quickly when this finance is available.

Steam generation

The equipment is now in place at Tapia. Preparation time is needed to connect
the equipment and carry out the necessary trials required to get the main work
started. We anticipate this steaming will start in the next couple of months. If
successful a significant amount of oil resources will move into the Proven
Producing Reserves category.

Joint Ventures

Discussions continue with a number of interested parties to develop our Anderson
counties gas assets.

New finance team

A new CFO has been appointed with good knowledge and experience of the oil
industry. A new assistant to undertake all the daily needs has also been
appointed.

SWOT ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS:

Sefton has two oil fields, both producing. One is already profitable, and the other is breaking even. This should generate good cashflow for the company over the medium term.
Sefton owns 100% of both its major oil interests and is now demerging its non-controlled oil interests in order to concentrate on those where it has full control (Sefton has recently disposed of its Canadian assets for CDN450k cash).
Sefton is establishing a track record of using modern extraction technologies to improve the efficiency of its fields.

WEAKNESSES:

Sefton has suffered from a number of one-off factors. While these were out of the companys control the problems it has faced since 2002 have held back development and taken up management time. Investor disenchantment may account for the current low rating.

OPPORTUNITIES:

Sefton has acquired acreage for CBM (coal bed methane) in Kansas. CBM gas production is a thriving market and Sefton believes it has acquired the acreage at advantageous prices. While this is a longer term prospect it is an exciting one and could eventually eclipse the oil interests.
There are a number of other fields in the Ventura Basin and more generally in California as a whole that Sefton may look to target now its cash flows are stronger.
Eureka is a semi-exploration play which may contain further upside. This cannot yet be evaluated.
At this valuation the company may prove an attractive target for a larger player.

THREATS

Owing to its geographical location the company continues to be exposed to the threat of bush fires, canyon floods and geological interruption (earthquake risk). Sefton is taking steps to mitigate this risk by investing in Kansas and although Forest Basin area is susceptible to tornados - gas facilities have a minimal surface footprint.

RAS,was that you?

1.800.000.00???

ptholden - 18 Apr 2007 13:09 - 442 of 2350

So someone has bought 1.8m shares in a pre-arranged deal above the Market Offer price and obviously believes that SER stock is currently worth that much and more. Gives an indication of where this will be going in the near future.

capetown - 18 Apr 2007 13:12 - 443 of 2350

Pt,lets hope so.

RAS - 18 Apr 2007 13:14 - 444 of 2350

lol, no not me capetown :)

That's 1.56% of the company bought in one deal. Very interesting!

ptholden - 18 Apr 2007 13:23 - 445 of 2350

Wonder if SER have become an acquisition target? Just an idle thought.

RAS - 18 Apr 2007 13:26 - 446 of 2350

More likely an institution buying a small stake IMO.

The 1.8m today and the 450k 'K' last week makes around 2%.

Would be good if they took 3% - an institutional holding RNS would do wonders for PI confidence, especially if they are willing to buy above market prices.

Mr Turbot - 18 Apr 2007 14:20 - 447 of 2350

What happened to the 1.8million on the cumulative total on Stockwatch.?

Does this deal not count? It is recorded as a deal 9p on the trades but well outside the current range

RAS - 18 Apr 2007 14:23 - 448 of 2350

Mr Turbot,

The trade is a block trade ('K'), and was actually filled last Friday. The trade was reported today as they can be reported upto 5 days later I believe.

capetown - 18 Apr 2007 14:29 - 449 of 2350

I dont believe i have seen such a large trade since consolidation, looking good,at last i am convinced we will go higher.

capetown - 18 Apr 2007 14:36 - 450 of 2350

The 1.8mill buy could be the reason why the sp went up last week, hence the fall from recent highs?

RAS - 18 Apr 2007 16:47 - 451 of 2350

More sells today, helping to fill buy orders like the 1.8m.

Fools!

MM's still bidding for 300k near close, unheard of before the last week or so, so could well be more such orders to come yet imo.

john50 - 18 Apr 2007 17:00 - 452 of 2350

Why did they report the 1.8m on friday and again today, the 450 trade was reported 3 times was it one buy or 3 buys strange.

RAS - 18 Apr 2007 17:34 - 453 of 2350

Both trades were only reported once.

Go to the trades screen and select sort by size (largest first) over the last 3 weeks.

ptholden - 18 Apr 2007 18:57 - 454 of 2350

Found this definition of a Block Trade, just to counter the usual allegations of 'MM games' bollocks.

Complex strategies such as large delta-neutral futures and options combination positions, or unusually large lot futures trades are executed as block trades and are traded directly between two participants in a pre-arranged trade permitted by the exchange. These can be seen on time and sales, and last trade data, but they do not go through the market - so if you have an order resting in the book, you will not get a fill.

'Block trades are generally deemed by most traders to be grossly unfair since a large number of these trades could be put through the market place and add much needed liquidity and additional volatility. As far as the exchanges are concerned, they dont really give a monkeys since they get their fee's per lot of the block trade for doing nothing. Most block trades are executed off the book over the telephone by big banks and generally reek of croneyism.'

Clearly I have left it later than I should have, but I think it might be time to add tomorrow.

Good find PTH

john50 - 18 Apr 2007 20:58 - 456 of 2350

The 1.8m reported today and the 13/04/07,there was a 450k K reported on the 12/04/07 and the 03/04/07 and 27/03/07, i made a note of them.

capetown - 18 Apr 2007 22:43 - 457 of 2350

PTH,i dont think you have missed the boat as this will probably continue to fall before news, look at the sells today.Good luck,Hope i am wrong of course.

ptholden - 18 Apr 2007 22:53 - 458 of 2350

Capetown,

Oh I'm pretty sure I haven't missed the boat, but perhaps should have considered averaging down sometime ago, well, I did a tadge, but not much. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. But with this unusual trade activity coupled with an immiment update, it looks like the last opportunity to buy sub 10p.

Incidentally, I can't see the Offer dropping by very much, the MMs want the stock and are encouraging sells by lowering the Bid and making the spread very unattractive.

Could be wrong of course, DYOR etc etc.

RAS - 18 Apr 2007 23:10 - 459 of 2350

Near close today I did a dummy buy quote with my broker. The maximum was 15k shares and they wanted the full 8p. On the sell side I could sell 300k+ for a premium to the bid.

So good luck with averaging down!

ptholden - 18 Apr 2007 23:15 - 460 of 2350

RAS, I'm not averaging down now, passed that point, but could have done over the last six months, but then there wasn't much in the way of news to prompt such a move.
