Bahamas' 'great prospects for oil' - Published On:Tuesday, January 11, 2011

The Bahamas continues to have "great prospects for world scale" oil and gas discoveries, a senior executive with an oil exploration company believes.

Dr Paul Crevello, director and chief operating officer of the Bahamas Petroleum Company, who will address Thursday's Business Outlook conference on the past, present and future of oil exploration in the Bahamas, said: "Over 60 years of sporadic exploration has been conducted in the Bahamas.

"However, there has been very little exploration and drilling activity, with no exploratory drilling in the last 20 years, and much of the seismic acquisition activity occurred more than 20 years ago.

"With the benefit of modern knowledge and technologies, the company is proud to have been able to shed light on the very great prospectivity of the Bahamas for world-scale oil and gas discoveries. With the world ever hungrier for new large oil and gas provinces, particularly in democracies close to North America, our work is set to achieve a large increase in value for the people of the Bahamas, our shareholders and oil and gas consumers in general.

"Our directorate is skilled in finding and developing new oil and gas fields in overlooked, forgotten and new areas, and has an outstanding track record of discovery and development. We look forward over the next few years to bringing discoveries into production."

Dr Crevello joined Bahamas Petroleum Company in November 2006, when it was a private company founded by Alan Burns of Perth, Australia. The company was granted five exploration licences by the Bahamas in 2007, followed by a listing on the London Alternative Investment Market (AIM) in August 2008. Its corporate headquarters is in the Isle of Man, and exploration/operations are managed from Nassau.

Another Bahamas Business Outlook speaker is orthodontist Dr Barry Russell, founder of The Bahamas Orthodontic Centre, which has expanded from two staff in 1991 to its current level of 18, with operations in both Nassau and Freeport. The company was named as the Chamber of Commerce's 2010 Business of the Year for firms with 50 employees or less.

Dr Russell will be speaking on the topic Successful Entrepreneurship in the Professional Service Sector: What will it take in this season.

Arguing that "hard work alone will not suffice", Dr Russell will urge Bahamian entrepreneurs in the professional services sector to possess a first-world mindset if they want to compete.

"As this is a very significant year for us, we intend to make this a very significant conference," said Joan Albury, president of conference organisers, The Counsellors.

"We are geared up to touch on every aspect of this country's economy and more. Our slate of speakers will address a wide range of topics that will bring an awareness to conference goers of what is happening in our country in terms of our economy and generally."

Cielo-----------In response to cynic's post 444 I was pointing out in a light hearted way that although there is a greater risk, the earlier one gets into an E & P Co the greater the rewards IF they're successful, and I believe BPC will be. I did sell half my holding to secure a decent profit (as nothing is certain) but will hold on to the remainder until the oil is gushing. As for the rest of your post, I enjoy the friendly banter and leg pulling with posters, cynic included, but I do not engage in slagging anyone off. I believe we post in order to share our knowledge, views and our beliefs about Co's we may or may not put money into, with the hope of making money. Good luck to you.

re - slagging anyone off

I have been on the net for too long and though it does not sound good, when time and time again someone comes to the thread with no holding and slagging the company, it is only fair to take the "PISS" of that -cynic - that the name say it all about the person.

I too have taken some profits, and still with the rest on a few Baggers, more than I can say to -cynic - apart from >>> bugger off

2517GEORGE - 14 Jan 2011 13:55 - 453 of 782

I find much of his (cynic) posts amusing, hilarious at times, but in the main what many of his posts do is usher a word of caution so as not to get too carried away.

Glad you took some profit.

I'm going all the way with this one from 4.7p.

hlyeo98 - 14 Jan 2011 14:56 - 455 of 782

Typical of cynic... he should never be here if he's so cautious.

mitzy - 14 Jan 2011 15:00 - 456 of 782

my target is 50p end 2011.

cynic - 14 Jan 2011 15:48 - 457 of 782

is that so hlyeo ..... and why should that be? ..... without pointing fingers, idiots get carried away by hype, and not banking profits prudently comes close that also ..... as is well said about fools and their money

required field - 14 Jan 2011 18:23 - 458 of 782

I've been forced into buying today.....I agree with you Cynic about this....very risky, but the blinkin' thing keeps on rising....and I'm at a small profit as we speak.....this is rising on possible potential.....only.....but when these things gather momentum.....they can shoot up....it might hit 25p next week...it might....

cynic - 14 Jan 2011 19:55 - 459 of 782

there are many better flakes than this one to buy into

required field - 14 Jan 2011 21:47 - 460 of 782

It's the momentum, I'm buying into...you can feel that it wants to climb....or I could try a 99 flake...in vanilla ice cream....
