WANdisco (WAND)

dreamcatcher - 07 Jul 2012 23:31

WANdisco stands for Wide Area Network Distributed Computing, and we make software happen.

This is because our technology is the secret ingredient behind the products that you use every day – from mobile phones to machinery. We are an active member of the community that develops the world’s most popular Source Code product: Subversion, and our technology is used by half of the world’s software developers.

Our customers include a host of Fortune 1000 companies such as Hewlett Packard, Intel, John Deere, European Southern Observatory, Barclays Capital, Walmart, GE and Cisco.

How it works

With our patented technology, software developers in distributed locations can work simultaneously, creating a seamless global network. Users at every site where WANdisco is installed have local access to the same data at all times, which means that they can make changes locally and see each other’s changes immediately.

We are proud to have a 98% customer renewal rate – which is driven by compelling ROI data: a recent study from Forrester Research has shown that our Subversion MultiSite offers a 167% return on investment with a nine-month payback period.

The company

Co-founded in 2005 by David Richards, Jim Campigli and Dr Yeturu Aahlad, WANdisco has dual headquarters in Silicon Valley and Sheffield, England. WANdisco grew, without raising any private equity, venture capital or angel finance to become a leading provider of global collaboration software to the software development industry.

On June 1st, 2012 the company had a highly successful IPO on the London Stock Exchange raising over $24 million. The IPO was oversubscribed by over 300% and the list of investors included Fidelity, Legal & General, Blackrock, Artemis, Hargreave Hale, Cazenove, M&G, Octopus and Standard Life. WANdisco's ticker is WAND.L

@brameld1950 thank you the results are very good and we are delighted. Stock price is a function of lots of things but this makes no sense

cynic - 16 Jan 2014 15:58 - 506 of 716

a very very strange stock to deal in unless you're happy with the MM price .... i've just decided to have a small top up at 1075, but could not place that through L2 .... had to go to broker (IG) who lodged it, and then i may or may not get them in the auction at 16:35

Quite surprised at the fall. Good luck cynic.

WANdisco Announces Unified Access Control for Subversion and Git

First Ever Unified Solution Provides Consistency Across Global SVN & Git Repos and Supports Compliance

SAN RAMON, Ca. – January 30, 2014 - WANdisco (LSE: WAND), a leading provider of high-availability software for global enterprises to meet the challenges of Big Data and distributed software development, announced Access Control Plus, the first unified access control solution for Subversion and Git. WANdisco Access Control Plus provides consistent authorization, authentication, access control and audit capabilities across globally distributed software development sites to fully protect valuable intellectual property.

Designed with an easy-to-use point-and-click interface, Access Control Plus can be deployed and maintained with minimal administrative overhead. Integration with LDAP and Active Directory ensures that users are automatically assigned to the Subversion and Git teams that correspond to their authentication server groups. Security administrators can delegate configuration authority to team leaders, further reducing administrative overhead.

To support compliance, Access Control Plus offers comprehensive audit capabilities that report every repository access attempt down to the file level, showing user, file accessed, Subversion or Git command used, date and time, and whether access was allowed or denied. Security administrators receive immediate alerts for any access violations. These capabilities enable key Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, PCI and other regulatory compliance requirements to be met without the burden of manual data collection that would otherwise be required during an audit.

“Secure access and seamless, unified management across their Subversion and Git repositories have been priorities for our enterprise customers,” said David Richards, Chairman and CEO of WANdisco. “Companies need to ensure only authorized individuals have access to intellectual property, achieve regulatory compliance, and simplify administration so that they maximize efficiency. We address all of these goals with Access Control Plus.”

WANdisco Launches Non-Stop HBase

Reliable Real-Time Transaction Processing Now A Reality for Big Data

London, UK - WANdisco (LSE: WAND), the provider of continuous availability software for global enterprises to meet the challenges of Big Data, is pleased to announce the launch of a new product - Non-Stop HBase for real-time transaction processing in Big Data.

WANdisco has applied its unique, patented active-active replication technology to HBase, making it continuously available across multiple data centers any distance apart. With this product, WANdisco eliminates the single points of failure in HBase.

HBase is an open source, non-relational, distributed database modeled after Google's BigTable and used for random, real-time read/write access to Big Data including Facebook's messaging platform. This capability has been added to both the Hortonworks and Cloudera distributions. HBase is a product which can be - and often is - used in conjunction with Hadoop.

WANdisco's patented replication technology has been applied to the two availability and performance bottlenecks in HBase's architecture - its region and master servers - eliminating the risk of downtime and data loss. This builds on the solid foundation already in place with the application of WANdisco's Non-Stop technology to Hadoop's NameNode, which HBase availability also depends upon.

David Richards, Executive Chairman and CEO, said:

"HBase is used for real-time interactive applications built on Hadoop. We have developed this product following feedback from some of our early pilots with potential customers and we believe this will extend our potential addressable market into the Hadoop live transaction space. Many of these Big Data applications are mission critical and even the cost of one minute of downtime is unacceptable. For the first time we've eliminated the risk of downtime and data loss by enabling HBase to be continuously available on a global scale."

WANdisco’s Big Data developments expected to deliver in 2014

By Julie Crust

February 18 2014, 10:29am

President and chief executive David Richards

Software specialist WANdisco (LON:WAND) is expected to see a bigger contribution from its Hadoop Big Data business this year, broker UBS said as it initiated its coverage with a ‘buy’ rating.

Shares in the group jumped 170% last year, making it one of Europe's top-performing stocks, mainly on the back of developments in Big Data, UBS said.

“As data volumes explode, Hadoop's low-cost, scaleable architecture makes it well placed to capitalise on this, and take share from traditional database and storage technologies.”

Hadoop currently has a 1% share of the US$44bn Big Data market.

UBS calculated a Big Data valuation for WANdisco of 728-1639p, assuming Hadoop takes a quarter of future data growth, valuing the entire company at 1525p, UBS said.

The shares were up 2.8% at 1,310p on Tuesday.

WANdisco all-in on HBase

WANdisco CEO David Richards and Jagane Sundar, CTO and VP of Engineering of Big Data joined theCUBE to discuss the company’s latest developments and the current Big Data trends at #BigDataSV earlier this month. WANdisco released this month a new Non-Stop Hadoop product, a single cluster running HBase that can be deployed across multiple data centers spread over different regions. Commenting on HBase adoption, Richards mentioned a 30 percent deployment among customers. It is mostly used for stock feeds, twitter streams, streaming real time apps.

“We’re seeing great desire for CIOs to do whole sale replacement their technology. Analyzing the market is difficult, it’s really tough. One of the proxies for Big Data is hard drive manufacturers, who are up 15 percent. Where Big Data adoption in real production environments is concerned, much like Splunk’s success, players such as Hortonworks and Cloudera will take over the market, even if it’s still dominated by the big whales. What we’re seeing, what I expect to see, companies that traditionally invest in public companies have to move down the stack and invest in private companies.”

WANdisco announces further progress in Big Data deployment via Hortonworks channel

WANdisco to provide continuous availability to leading U.S. medical facility

London, UK - WANdisco (LSE: WAND), the provider of continuous availability software for global enterprises to meet the challenges of Big Data, is pleased to announce that it has agreed its first Big Data deployment through the Hortonworks channel partnership with the University of California's Irvine Health ("UCI Health").

WANdisco will provide UCI Health with continuous availability of data through its unique Non-Stop technology, initially across a small number of data nodes, as UCI Health takes its first step in implementing Hadoop. Through its deployment, UCI Health will be able digitally to collate, store and analyze all data relating to its patients' conditions in real time, allowing staff to reduce considerably the number of lives lost annually.

The Non-Stop Hadoop technology will enable UCI Health to process accurate pattern-set recognitions, use algorithms to monitor patient recovery for non-linear complications, and build predictive-modeling systems to minimize deaths caused by medical error, all of which will greatly increase UCI Health's capacity to provide treatment before patients succumb to disease and allow care to be proactive rather than reactive.

UCI Health's current data warehouse technology used to support their Electronic Medical Record ("EMR") applications struggles with availability issues as well as the variety of data it can handle. UCI Health's key consideration in choosing WANdisco and Hortonworks was the continuous availability that WANdisco offers, eliminating downtime, which is unacceptable in medical situations where a patient's condition can change dramatically and quickly.

Early Hadoop implementations are expected to be on a controlled scale. Success with these early live deployments will see customers return and extend their usage of Hadoop in their organisations. Consistent with this, UCI Health's initial deployment is for a 10 node Hadoop cluster.

Charles Boicey, Informatics Solutions Architect, UCI Health, said:

"WANdisco is helping us make a real shift in the medical profession. Rather than just helping people when they are sick, we are now able to identify what can be done to keep people well. The number of people who die from medical errors in the US alone is the equivalent of a major passenger plane dropping out of the sky every three days - being able to cut preventable deaths of this sort is of critical importance for the medical community. We've not found any other technology that could provide us with the uptime we need to offer this level of care - it's like having a nurse and doctor in every hospital room around the clock."

David Richards, WANdisco Executive Chairman and CEO, said:

"We are delighted to help UCI Health implement its forward-thinking big data strategies, which we believe represent the future of the sector. This is just one demonstration of how Non-Stop Hadoop can change the world and a clear indication of why the continuous availability of data is critical. UCI Health is just one hospital in the UC medical system but their lead opens up a whole new opportunity for us across the healthcare sector. While initially our technology will be deployed on a relatively small scale, we look forward to working closely with UCI and developing our relationship over the coming months."
