What did the investors chronicle says about Sterling Energy this week?

Not many small oil firms can boast of diversity or a track record like Sterling Energy's. So while the company's exploration opportunities off the coast of Madagascar catch most investors' eyes, there are plenty of other strengths. For example, its Chinguetti Well in Mauritania may not have met expectations but it's still making A LOT OF MONEY, as are the offshore assets in the Gulf of Mexico.
Sterling even has a pipeline in the US generating revenues of $2.5MILLION (1.3MILLION) a year, and is starting to create its own prospects in the region. A strong oil price can only help, too, both with deal flow and with profits.

georgetrio,

Many thanks for posting that, and a fair assessment of the current situation IMO.

I would have liked them to mention the workaround for Chinguetti, and the production increase expected when the compressor on the FSPO has been fixed, which is due this quarter I believe, but I guess that will leave them something to comment on in the future!

austing2253 - 21 Aug 2006 10:07 - 6169 of 7811

Anyone any news on Madagascar or Kurdistan?

These two fields offer potentially mega returns...

Andy - 21 Aug 2006 10:51 - 6170 of 7811

austing2253,

I am not expecting anyhting at the moment.

Madagascar looks like being drilled in 2008 at the moment, although I have read comments that suggest Exxon will try and do it next year, but nothing more than a rumour IMO.

Kurdistan is a bit of an unknown, and therefore news could ciome out at any time, we will have to wait and see.

One negative for Kusdistan would be title, where there is clearly a dispute over who can award licences between the local kurd administration, and the American appointed Iraqi government in Baghdad.

austing2253 - 21 Aug 2006 11:15 - 6171 of 7811

Thanks Andy, very much a wait and see at the moment.

IMO there is still plenty of upside elsewhere, but it would be good if Madagascar started next year.

Regards

Gerry

ANDY
i think, they will wait till they bring the production to level stated before they come to the market. they have no choice but to perform and increase shareholders' value. patience though

Andy, Georgetrio

I am sure half year results 22 Sep will be supportive so bought a few more on weakness this morning. Amvescap don't seem to have picked any more up since June, they have been buyers every two or three months although they now have over quarter of SEY.

georgetrio - 21 Aug 2006 16:40 - 6174 of 7811

RAY
THE DAY THIS SHARE WILL LEAP TOWARDS HEAVEN, LONGTERM INVESTOR WILL DANCE AND SWIM. NOT EASY TO BUY THIS ONE THOUGH, BUT I CAN'T STOP BUYING STERLING. EXCELLENT VALUE

RE: ADVICE REGARDING HALF YEAR 2006 RESULTS AND
CHINGUETTI UPDATE

Advice regarding Half Year 2006 Results & Chinguetti Update

Hardman Resources Limited ('Hardman') wishes to advise that it will issue its
Interim Results for the Half Year ended 30 June 2006 at 7:30 am WST on 29 August
2006. A copy of an Investor Presentation relating to these results will be
placed on the Hardman website
www.hdr.com.au
shortly thereafter. The Interim
Results announcement will include additional details on the performance and
outlook for the Chinguetti field offshore Mauritania and provisional estimates
of oil volumes discovered to date in Uganda, following the successful test
results announced earlier this week.

To date, the Chinguetti field operator, Woodside, and Hardman have advised that
the estimated reserves of the field are under review following the significantly
lower-than-expected production. The operator has now advised that the updated
reserve estimates, reflecting the re-appraisal of its geological and reservoir
models, will be provided by the end of 2006.

As an interim measure pending more detailed data being available, Hardman will
provide in its Interim Results announcement its view on those aspects of the
field's potential which can be commented on reliably at this stage. This will
include volumes of oil in place, which as confirmed by the operator have not
materially changed, and estimated recoverable reserves from the existing Phase 1
and planned Phase 2 wells which formed the original development plan. The wells
in this original plan are not likely to recover significantly more than 50% of
the original 2P (proven and probable) reserves estimate of 123 million barrels.
It is not possible at this time to provide a reliable estimate of complete 2P
reserves as this will have to take into account additional recovery from other
future wells in a re-assessed development plan. Ultimate recovery will also
depend on the benefits from the proposed 4D seismic programme in early 2007 and
application of different technical solutions (eg well designs) from those in the
original development plan. The corresponding net entitlement reserves under the
production sharing arrangements are expected to be reduced by a lesser
proportion than changes to the gross field reserves.

Thanks

queen1 - 23 Aug 2006 10:16 - 6178 of 7811

It's an amazing share this. I've been in it for over 3 years now and it can take months and months to increase by 10%, with tiny increases here and there over the period to achieve the rise, despite excellent newsflow. Yet with a less favourable anouncement the sp can drop 10% in less than an hour. Go figure.

Andy - 23 Aug 2006 10:20 - 6179 of 7811

queen1,

I totally agree, pretty frustrating!

Down around 17% now!

queen1 - 23 Aug 2006 10:30 - 6180 of 7811

A total over-reaction by the market IMO.
