SEFTON RESOURCES INC - UNDERRATED OIL PRODUCER (SER)

ptholden - 04 Aug 2006 19:53

???

Sefton Resources is an independent AIM quoted Oil and Gas company operating in the US. The companys principal current assets are two producing oilfields in California (Tapia Canyon Field and Eureka Canyon Field); it is also in the process of buying up prospective coal bed methane acreage (CBM) in Kansas.

Update from July 2007 AGM

Finance

I revealed in my annual statement that discussions were well advanced with
Banking institutions. The final phase of the agreement with a suitable bank
without complex and restrictive terms is now very near. This is weeks away
rather than months.

Oil

Oil production at Tapia has averaged 4,100 BO during the last five months. Which
is in line with last years levels. Once this finance is in place we will be able
to move ahead with drilling.

Drilling

We have stayed close to drilling contractors and we are ready to move forward
quickly when this finance is available.

Steam generation

The equipment is now in place at Tapia. Preparation time is needed to connect
the equipment and carry out the necessary trials required to get the main work
started. We anticipate this steaming will start in the next couple of months. If
successful a significant amount of oil resources will move into the Proven
Producing Reserves category.

Joint Ventures

Discussions continue with a number of interested parties to develop our Anderson
counties gas assets.

New finance team

A new CFO has been appointed with good knowledge and experience of the oil
industry. A new assistant to undertake all the daily needs has also been
appointed.

SWOT ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS:

Sefton has two oil fields, both producing. One is already profitable, and the other is breaking even. This should generate good cashflow for the company over the medium term.
Sefton owns 100% of both its major oil interests and is now demerging its non-controlled oil interests in order to concentrate on those where it has full control (Sefton has recently disposed of its Canadian assets for CDN450k cash).
Sefton is establishing a track record of using modern extraction technologies to improve the efficiency of its fields.

WEAKNESSES:

Sefton has suffered from a number of one-off factors. While these were out of the companys control the problems it has faced since 2002 have held back development and taken up management time. Investor disenchantment may account for the current low rating.

OPPORTUNITIES:

Sefton has acquired acreage for CBM (coal bed methane) in Kansas. CBM gas production is a thriving market and Sefton believes it has acquired the acreage at advantageous prices. While this is a longer term prospect it is an exciting one and could eventually eclipse the oil interests.
There are a number of other fields in the Ventura Basin and more generally in California as a whole that Sefton may look to target now its cash flows are stronger.
Eureka is a semi-exploration play which may contain further upside. This cannot yet be evaluated.
At this valuation the company may prove an attractive target for a larger player.

THREATS

Owing to its geographical location the company continues to be exposed to the threat of bush fires, canyon floods and geological interruption (earthquake risk). Sefton is taking steps to mitigate this risk by investing in Kansas and although Forest Basin area is susceptible to tornados - gas facilities have a minimal surface footprint.

Who said it was obvious, cynic?

cynic - 17 Aug 2007 15:41 - 1022 of 2350

ICI for starters ...... accepted bid of 670 + 5 divi ..... buy now at about 616

surely if something a SCREAMING BUY, it must be obvious?
or is it doing so in a padded cell?

SECRUOSER - 17 Aug 2007 15:45 - 1023 of 2350

Sorry, thought we were discussing Sefton.

cynic - 17 Aug 2007 16:02 - 1024 of 2350

you asked for a buy recommendation; you got it!

whoops! i lied;it was CT

kimoldfield - 17 Aug 2007 16:30 - 1025 of 2350

Well.......my only blue share yesterday, my second biggest faller today (WNG being my most spectacular). Life just is not fair, I will probably sulk all weekend. The sun is shining though, that's something to be thankful for. Enjoy your weekend all, next week will see SER go up....err, or down; maybe stay the same??!

SECRUOSER - 17 Aug 2007 16:37 - 1026 of 2350

The market makers have never made it an easy ride holding this share (yes, cynic the MM's), with their wide spreads, sudden drops in the bid, lowering the price on buying etc that has happened on a regular basis. Historically this share has had a very high proportion of small inexperienced and weakly-holding PI's (due to the rescue placings with HB and CE in 2003/4) and I believe this fact plus the history of generally slow progress by the management lies behind the MM's cynical attitude with this share and it's investors.

But I firmly believe if something is worth having and is going to make you a lot of money, nobody is ever going to make that an easy goal for you to attain. It is always going to be a challenging ride but ultimately well worth it for those that can stick the course.

Now Sefton have this excellent finance facility behind them, this is truly the beginning of a new era for Sefton. Don't let the current price shenanigans distract you from that fact.

All the euphoria about funding and when it comes, the SP is back where it belongs

capetown - 18 Aug 2007 15:37 - 1028 of 2350

Yes it is,and whats worse is that the market bounced up some 200 points and sefton nosedives on good news, its going to be a very very longhaul.

SECRUOSER - 18 Aug 2007 16:57 - 1029 of 2350

Maybe, maybe not.

pianoman - 18 Aug 2007 18:47 - 1030 of 2350

With funding now in place and good drilling prospects, why are people not jumping in?

I expect to see 3p in the next few weeks

halifax - 18 Aug 2007 19:11 - 1031 of 2350

Curious isnt it?

SECRUOSER - 18 Aug 2007 19:19 - 1032 of 2350

Any sensible predictions for sp next week?

I'm going for 7.5-8p.

Could get a (institutional?) holdings RNS Mon/Tue which would help matters and also this months Hardman newsletter is due out early next week.

Very bad timing to release (very) good news last week. People generally selling out and not buying into shares, not least new shares. I would suggest this situation may get better next week as people look to pick up bargains. Certainly can't get much worse!

ptholden - 18 Aug 2007 22:00 - 1033 of 2350

Not bad timing at all, just poor luck in that the loan was agreed during a major correction in the markets. As price sensitive news SER would not have been able to withold releasing the RNS. As to Institutional buying, can't see it myself, this old chestnut is often trotted out, but would certainly help if it happens.

As with all stocks, increased profitability is the key and to achieve that SER need to increase production whether it be oil or CBM.

SECRUOSER - 19 Aug 2007 11:03 - 1034 of 2350

ptholden,

The 5m share position (4.5%) that was revealed on Thursday is being looked into by the company/registrar, hence my comments about a holdings RNS. This could be an institution or a larger PI.

The company will commence drilling and steaming operations next month which will increase oil production at the Tapia Canyon oilfield.

By the way, don't understand your comment about it not being bad timing, but bad luck.. Doesn't that amount to the same thing? Its what I meant anyway.

SECRUOSER - 20 Aug 2007 16:45 - 1035 of 2350

Quiet today. Everyone having a long weekend?

cynic - 20 Aug 2007 16:46 - 1036 of 2350

everyone, thank goodness, staying calm and quiet and hoping that wall Street does the same ..... certainly Dow seems disinclined to fall away at the moment

SECRUOSER - 20 Aug 2007 16:58 - 1037 of 2350

Agreed, everything seems a bit more stable and sensible today..... touch wood!

Another tick up, the sp is looking more solid by the day a steady rise before the September results would be nice.

SECRUOSER - 23 Aug 2007 15:47 - 1040 of 2350

Nice rise in the offer. Just need the bid to follow suit. Having said that the online bid price is creeping up, now 5.2p
