French Connection is expected to cheer investors with its full year results on Friday after it emerged relatively unscathed from freezing December.

The fashion retailer last month said pre-tax profits will be least 6.8m in the year to 31 January, compared to 1.6m the previous year and well ahead of previous estimates of between 2.6m and 5.1m

French Connection lifted as shake-up pays offBy Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 3:18 PM on 4th February 2011

Fashion chain French Connection said on Friday that it expects annual profits to beat expectations despite the challenging trading conditions.
The retailer said pre-tax profits for the year would be at least 6.8million, marking a significant improvement compared to previous estimates for profits between 2.6million and 5.1million. (UPDATED again))

The upbeat update sent shares soaring 22 per cent, up 14.8p to 83.7p, as analysts upgraded their forecasts for this year and the next one.

Recovery: French connection expects annual profits to be higher than previous forecasts
The improved performance follows the companys decision to launch a restructuring drive after it posted bottom-line losses of 24.9million last year.

The shake-up saw the company sell its loss-making Nicole Farhi brand and shut down its Japanese business as well as some stores in North America and Europe.

Key brands help Dairy Crest to deliver strong third-quarter sales

Chief operating officer Neil Williams said: We are very happy with the restructuring we have done and that will allow us to concentrate on our core business.

He added: It's too early to say how 2011 will go but we feel that if we can produce some really good product there will be demand for it.

The surge in profits is down to wholesale outlets and licensing, while the groups own stores, which account for about 55 per cent of revenues, have fared in line with previous guidance in November, when sales fell by almost 8 per cent.

The company has also been boosted from a series of profitable licensing agreements, including a $10million (6.2million) deal with Hong Kong-based exporter Li & Fung that will see clothes and other goods carrying the slogan 'UK Style by French Connection' sold in Sears stores for the next four years.

The update prompted analyst Andrew Wade, of Numis Securities, to up his profits forecast for the year to January 2012 to 8.2million from 7.5million.

He said: Despite our expectation that 2011 could be a challenging year for the sector we believe the momentum being built up at French Connection, boosted by the 1.5million benefit of the Li & Fung deal, should see the business continue to make good progress.

LAST FORWARD STATEMENT. 10/03/2011

Aggreko plc, the world leader in the supply of temporary power and temperature control, announces its results for the twelve months to 31 December 2010.

Outlook for 2011

The current instability in some countries in the Middle East and Africa makes the task of predicting the outcome for the year more than normally difficult; our global scale and diversification of risk exposures will be helpful as we manage through this period of uncertainty. We currently anticipate that for the year as a whole trading profit in 2011 will be at a similar level to 2010. Allowing for currency movements and the 87 million of major events revenue in 2010 which will not recur in 2011, this would represent underlying growth of around 15%. We expect both International Power Projects and our Local businesses to deliver good growth on an underlying basis in 2011, and to support this, fleet capital investment is expected to increase by 26% to a record 320 million.

In International Power Projects, the business will benefit from the strong order-intake seen in 2010, and the order book is now some 60% higher than the prior year as a consequence of signing several large multi-year contracts. The off-hire rate has fallen sharply in recent months, and the business started the year with nearly 14% more capacity on rent than at the beginning of 2010; as a consequence we expect the business to deliver strong growth in 2011.

Amongst the Local businesses, we are expecting all of our businesses to deliver underlying growth. In North America, we expect the recovery seen in the second half of 2010 to continue into 2011. In Europe and the Middle East, we also expect to see growth in 2011, albeit at more modest levels than North America. In Aggreko International's Local business, we are continuing our programme of geographic expansion, and expect to open several new service centres during the year; we expect this business to deliver strong underlying revenue growth in 2011.

DYOR

It is interesting that until the Japan disaster struck AGK shares appeared to be topping out. But at least while above the top of March's chart gap at 1,482p a retest of the best levels through 1,700p could be possible if the general stock market sell off is not too severe
