THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Although not a fan of Jeremy Clarkson, I do agree that he can be funny, but like most of todays comedians, he often goes too far.
The joke (sic) about being delayed on train journeys due to people throwing themselves in suicide bids under trains was to my mind, very unfunny and a sick joke.
How was that different from a joke about being delayed on a motorway due to a person committing suicide by jumping of a bridge in front of cars.
The people who laugh at these sick jokes are just as bad as those who tell them.
They are like sheep, laughing because they follow the pack and don't have the bottle to be the odd one out and say what they probably really think.
I well remember the morning following 9/11 and hearing a so called funny joke about the jumpers from the towers.
I was in a group of about ten and told the joke teller exactly what I thought of his sick humor, and although all the others laughed, several came to me after and admitted they only laughed 'because the others did'.
I wonder if those who feel that jokes about say spastics, would laugh at jokes about cancer sufferers or holocaust victims.
The answer is probably yes, it todays sick world.
So next time you hear a sick joke that you feel offended by, try having the guts to make a stand and tell the joker what you think of him.
I am not a prude, but as in all things there should be limits of what you can say, just as there are limits to what you can do.

Why?

greekman - 05 Dec 2011 09:25 - 13589 of 81564

Racism is a hate crime. When you have witnesses such crimes as I have, it is often pride of ones culture, not shame that makes people angry at such behavior.
I do though feel that often the cry of Racism is too quickly called.

TANKER - 05 Dec 2011 09:39 - 13590 of 81564

greek i had the misfortune to have to go to burnley for a meeting .
walking back to my hotel a group of asians shouted at me with foul and abusive words . i just looked at them and smiled . racism .so these muslims that speak out saying no muslim should go out with a enough race must be racists ..
i dont like football but did play rugby a mans game and you are called alsorts of things it is just apart of playing a rough game and never took any personal insult at it .
these so called footballers who shout racist should not be playing
do they never call there wife or children names .
if not then they are NOT human it is that that makes us humans
colour is un important if you are happy to what you are

"greek i had the misfortune to have to go to burnley for a meeting ." Not a BNP meeting was it T?

Fred1new - 05 Dec 2011 11:17 - 13592 of 81564

Tanker,

Racism in sport.

In one of the last games of rugby I played there was one participant who sworn at by the opposition and even members of the home side.

He was never passed the ball, although he was in the right position to score a try.

When we got back to the changing room, nobody spoke to him and there seem to be mutterings about him and attempts to ostracise him.

I feel embarrassed now, that I did not speak up for him as he seemed to be playing the game and fitter than most on the pitch and trying his best.

Afterwards, when I had cooled down a bit I did feel a little sorry for him, but he did stand out.

Often think back to then and wonder what I should have done.

"I started to walk down the street when I heard a voice saying: 'Good evening, Mr. Dowd.' I turned, and there was this big white rabbit leaning against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that, because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name."

Tanker,

Name calling would not bother me either, but if I was set upon by a group of youths and beaten up just because I was white, that would rile (understatement) me no end.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.
