THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Hi Beebusy,

I have no problem what anyone does or wears in this country as long as it does not impede on my/our way of life.
If I go to another country, either as a tourist or as an immigrant, I would expect to abide by their laws.
If I did not agree with these laws (not their punishments), I would not go.

I give 2 scenarios.

1
A serious crime is committed in the UK.
Several witnesses state that the perpetrator was an eastern looking female who was wearing a Hijab, decent facial descriptions given.
Police search the area and near the scene find a group of Muslim women, some wearing the Hijab and some with the addition of a Burka.
Suspecting that the suspect may be one of the females, now wearing a Burka, they request that these women remove the item in order for the officers to see if any match the description.
Women refuse and are arrested as suspects.
Imagine the questions asked at a later date of the Police involved. Just think of the media coverage and possible compensation claims.

2
A serious crime is committed in Iran.
Several witnesses etc, etc.
Description is of a white European looking youth, with a hooded jacket, hood down.
Good descriptions re facial features.
Group of similar dressed youth found near scene, all with hood up and scarves covering faces.
Police request (demand more like) that hood/scarves are removed.
Youths refuse.
I am sure you can guess the rest.

I have no problem with beliefs, way of life or anything else that does not effect the UK way of life.
When it does, it should not be allowed.

Tolerance is like free speech, they are both fine until it benefits the minority whilst disadvantaging the majority.

Off topic , Greekman, any idea who will win the Mayweather v Cotto ? Manny Pacman destroyed Cotto. I don't know why Manny is fighting his next opponent he beat him before. I think Manny is having to many hard fights and Mayweather is waiting for him to have one to many , which could well be his next fight. If Mayweather win's the Cotto fight the Pac Man fight will take place.

MightyMicro - 13 Feb 2012 15:04 - 14843 of 81564

The Burka: it cuts both ways, of course. The BBC's John Simpson escaped through hostile territory in Afghanistan by wearing a burka, as I recall. Just as well he didn't encounter any Taliban who liked large girls.

greekman - 13 Feb 2012 15:53 - 14844 of 81564

Hi Aldwickk,

Mayweather to win by a knockout, ref stopping the fight or Cotto unable to continue, but it will be damn close.

MightyMicro,

Well it would have give J Simpson a new experience to talk about.

Greek.

The reason that we can have these conversations is that we live in a free and tolerant society. Like many I am appalled by the treatment received by females in some society's. Education and example goes alongway to changing this mind set. I have a theory that this treatment is brought about by fear as by in large the females of these societies show a degree of intelingence which if allowed to blossom would bring about change and prosperity to these countries and without the need for bloodshed.Lasting peace will not be found in the barrel of a gun but when the common people find their voices and state enough is enough. Just look at the events in Egypt,Libya, and Syria.Change is coming and not just in the middle east. People want a level of accountability by ministers, bankers, social workers, etc, It is a same to say that won the right to vote we are left in the sorry situation of who do you vote for? We need a leader who works for the people and with the people, to right the wrongs in our society. Such a person has yet to rise but they will. Bare in mind that with all that is percieved to be wrong in our society it is still one of the best places to live in the world .

A council worker today admitted to claiming more than £200,000 in benefits despite having three jobs and a property portfolio worth more than £500,000.
Gladys Popoola's six-year web of deception, which involved using a false identity and claiming to be unmarried and out-of-work, only came to an end today when she admitted to 16 counts relating to fraud.

Popoola, who has a 17-month-old baby, was warned she can expect a custodial sentence when she returns to Southwark Crown Court for sentencing on March 16.
The 47-year-old owned three homes in London and property in Kenya. She was receiving rental income from these homes as well as working for three companies.

However Popoola fraudulently claimed benefits by failing to declare that she was living with her husband, who was working, instead claiming she was unmarried in applications for income support, housing benefit, council tax benefit and special grant.
She also admitted today to lying in order to get legal aid in civil proceedings against her.
Popoola's jobs included two with housing groups and employment with Hammersmith and Fulham Council, which she obtained using a false national insurance number and the fake name Gladys Gitonga.
She confessed today to 13 counts of making false representation for benefit purposes, one of obtaining property by deception, a national insurance number in April 2004, one of fraud by false representation and one of possessing an article, namely a false national insurance number, for use in fraud

Britain's pension funds, unions and businesses have joined forces in begging the European Union to shelve draconian plans that would cripple UK pensions with a £600billion hit.

Three major industry bodies have written an open letter to the President of the European Commission warning the 'serious mistake' could plunge the whole union into crisis.

The proposed new rules, concocted by Brussels bureaucrats, would force final salary pension schemes to hold more cash in reserve and invest in less risky assets.

The idea is create a bigger firewall to stop schemes going belly-up in a crisis.

But the move would kill off the last 19 per cent of final salary pensions - based on earnings and length of service - still open to UK employees, the body representing thousands of UK pension funds says.

The National Association of Pension Funds calls this the best case

Anybody have sympathy for the Sun and its journalists?

It is shameful that they are being investigated.

Has Cameron's cronie Coulon given his "story" to the H Enquiry yet?

beebusy - 13 Feb 2012 20:12 - 14853 of 81564

O'Reilly is dead.

Irish stage and screen actor David Kelly, known for films like Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, has died aged 82.

O'Really

Fred1new - 14 Feb 2012 09:01 - 14859 of 81564

I see the economic genie Osborne and Cameron have in the last two years of "responsibility" managed to have UK's economic outlook downgraded.

I wonder who this government of "No Hopers" is going to blame for their incompetences for Moody's estimations. Perhaps it will be the Euro, the USA, The Fauklanders or the Eskimos

Oh my grandson has just said "its their parents' fault."
