I've held/traded this NYSE listed share since last July, having sold half when they doubled and recently added in the 70s.

They are 'nail biting' to hold and can be very volatile - recently, near 10% daily swings are not uncommon.

They offer exposure to an intriguing and potentially huge technology and as such, evoke many and varied viewpoints.

I also have interests in Organavo and Stratesys

Decided to sell out Friday after a good run. Probably still a good long term bet but wanted the cash for somewhere else.

3D Systems: At A Short-Term Crossroad

cynic - 24 Feb 2014 20:13 - 10 of 193

i sold my last "piece" at a very nice profit, despite today's fall .... i'll continue holding the larger balance, which i admit is currently a bit out of the money

Greyhound - 24 Feb 2014 20:21 - 11 of 193

It's recovered well after a strong pullback. Somewhat volatile but that's the nature of the beast. I may be back here when I've got some more cash in the ISA in April.

thanks skinny .... a useful even if typically rather hedged conclusion ..... however, if the short term is bullish, that will do for me :-)

skinny - 27 Feb 2014 12:00 - 15 of 193

Ignoring all of the 'noise' and the massive swings etc, I'd rather be in this technology than out atm.

DDD sp seems unaffected ... another case of paid "research"?

skinny - 27 Feb 2014 15:46 - 19 of 193

It is difficult (for me anyway) to find decent research sources for US stocks - I'm not even sure what time they report today!!

cynic - 27 Feb 2014 16:16 - 20 of 193

Quantum Leap regularly recommends US stocks and has good articles accompanying .... you then pick and choose, and of course he doesn't always get in right - e.g. BLNX!!

Rolls-Royce hits ignition on next generation of engines

Rolls Royce to use 3D printing...

A new generation of more powerful, fuel-efficient, cleaner and quieter aero engines are set to burst onto the market with an added extra for airlines: rather than the usual shiny titanium, the huge 11ft diameter turbofans can be delivered in colours to match the customer’s livery.

Rolls-Royce yesterday unveiled a multibillion-pound development plan for two new engine types over the next decade which will use carbonfibre composites built by additive layer manufacturing - or 3D printing techniques to create lighter engines.
