Could anyone out there give a rookie like me some tips on where to buy shares on the web?

Buy a copy of "SHARES" magazine and look at the investor services directory.
All the info you could want there.

I currently use www.idealing.com and have had no problems (and they are quite cheap too)

mark,
take some time to have a look through the free bulletin board, there are several threads about how to start out investing. a lot of people on here speak a lot of sense, but always do your own research into a company. if you have a company in mind, use the quote key at the top of the page and type in the EPIC code of the share. This will bring up links to all the bulletin board threads on this share. if there is something you don't understand post it as a question, someone here will probably know the answer.
Best of luck, we all need it when investing!
