WH Smith PLC on Wednesday said it has appointed Annette Court, chair of Cardiff-based insurer Admiral Group PLC, as chair designate and non-executive director.
Court is also a non-executive director at Newcastle-based accounting software provider Sage Group PLC. She will join Swindon-based WH Smith's board on September 1 and will succeed Henry Staunton as chair on December 1.
Staunton will retire from the board on November 30, after nine years as chair. Admiral expects Court to serve as chair to the end of the company's annual general meeting in 2023.
Admiral Group shares were 0.3% lower at 2,254.50 pence each in London on Wednesday morning, while WH Smith traded 0.9% higher at 1,569.50 pence each.
