Anglo American PLC - miner of diamonds, platinum, copper, iron ore and other commodities - Signs memorandum of understanding with Japanese steel manufacturer Nippon Steel Corp. Says the companies will work together to research ways to optimise lump ore produced by its mines to decrease emissions through the traditional blast furnace steelmaking process. Adds that the companies will also study the use of its iron ore in the direct reduction iron steelmaking method, which is supposed to be more carbon-efficient. Does not disclose the financial details of the partnership.
