Bank of Ireland promotes retail unit head Gavin Kelly to interim CEO

ALN

Bank of Ireland Group PLC on Wednesday named Gavin Kelly as its interim chief executive officer, effective from Saturday, as it continues the hunt for a permanent hire.

The Dublin-based lender said it is ‘making good progress on the process to appoint a permanent successor’, after it announced in April that CEO Francesca McDonagh would leave the company in September after five years in the role.

Kelly joined the company in 2007 from financial services firm Permanent TSB Group Holdings PLC and has held a number of senior roles with the group.

In 2018, Kelly was appointed head of the company's Irish retail banking unit, Retail Ireland.

Chair Patrick Kennedy said: ‘Gavin brings a wealth of experience to this role. Since Gavin joined Bank of Ireland in 2007 he has held a number of senior management positions including chief information officer, director of Distribution Channels and director of Consumer Banking.’

Shares were up 2.7% at €6.11 each on Wednesday morning in London.
