Jet2 PLC on Tuesday said it has bought more aircraft from Airbus SE, to meet the future anticipated growth of its Leisure Travel business.
The Leeds-based low-cost airline said it has agreed to buy 35 new Airbus A320 neo aircraft, and it has the ability to extend this order for up to to 71 aircraft.
"The A320 neos will be configured for 180 seats with an airspace cabin featuring innovative lighting, new seating products and 60 percent larger overhead baggage bins for added personal storage," Airbus said.
The aircraft, which will be delivered between 2028 and 2031, are worth $3.9 billion at list price. For 71 aircraft the total transaction value amounts to $8.0 billion.
The company explained that it has negotiated "significant" discounts from the base price.
Jet2 will retain flexibility in determining the most favourable method of financing the aircraft, which will be through a combination of internal resources and debt, it added.
In August 2021, Jet2 placed its first order for 36 A321neo. This means the airline now has a total of 98 firm ordered aircraft, which could eventually extend to up to 146 aircraft.
Executive Chair Philip Meeson said: "We are delighted to build on our existing relationship with Airbus and to have placed this additional aircraft order which provides the company with certainty of supply well into the next decade."
Shares in Jet2 were down 0.1% to 732.80 pence each in London on Tuesday morning. Airbus was up 0.8% at €99.86 in Paris.
