Vodafone closes sale of Ghana arm to Telecel; 5G initiative advances

ALN

Vodafone Group PLC on Tuesday said it completed the sale of its 70% shareholding in Vodafone Ghana to Telecel Group.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Separately, Vodafone said that, alongside Deutsche Telekom AG, Orange SA, Telecom Italia SpA, Telefonica SA, it has made progress on improving maturity, security and energy efficiency of open radio access networks. An open radio access network allows interoperation between cellular network equipment provided by different sellers.

Maturity refers to mature technology that has been used for long enough that most of its initial faults and problems have been removed or reduced by development. The companies aim to improve maturity for 5G for urban areas and reducing system integration costs. On energy efficiency, the companies note this is improving as cloud infrastructure advances.

Vodafone shares were 0.3% higher at 103.11 pence each in London on Tuesday morning.
