Trident Royalties starts production at Thacker Pass lithium project

ALN

Trident Royalties PLC on Friday said it started the construction at the Thacker Pass lithium project in Nevada, US.

The London-based mining royalty and streaming company said the construction start was based on a recent update by the project operator, Lithium Americas Corp, which on Thursday said it is starting construction. Lithium Americas Thursday said that contracts for major earthworks have been awarded, anticipating activities expected to start in the second half of 2023.

Thacker is targeting 80,000 tonnes of battery-quality lithium carbonate output capacity in two phases of 40,000 tonnes per year. It anticipates for phase 1 production to start in the second half of 2026.

Lithium Americas Corp Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Evans said: ‘Starting construction is a momentous milestone for Thacker Pass and one we have been working towards for over a decade. We are excited about the prospect of generating economic growth in Northern Nevada and playing a major role in the domestic lithium supply chain for electric vehicles.’

Trident Royalties shares were 6.6% higher at 58.85 pence each in London on Friday afternoon.
