STV welcomes 10-year extension of Channel 3 licences by UK government

ALN

STV Group PLC on Wednesday welcomed the UK government’s decision to renew the Scottish broadcaster’s Channel 3 licences by a further 10 years from January 2025.

The Glasgow-based television broadcaster said: ‘The confirmation that STV’s licences for central and north Scotland can be extended secures the provision of public service obligations, including the country’s highest performing news and current affairs programmes.’

Further, STV welcomed the draft of the UK media bill, which includes a provision to extend the prominence that public service media providers are currently entitled to on broadcast platforms, to new digital platforms. ‘This will mean that STV Player will be more easily discoverable on connected TVs, streaming sticks and set top boxes,’ STV explained.

STV shares were 0.7% higher at 253.70 pence each in London on Wednesday morning.
