Seplat Energy chair to resign and firm eyes improved governance

ALN

Seplat Energy PLC on Tuesday said its Chair Basil Omiyi will resign in May and the company added it is looking to ‘strengthen its governance’.

The Lagos-Nigeria, based energy supplier said it has begun searching for a new chair and is considering its existing directors in the recruitment process.

Seplat Energy also announced that Senior Independent Non-Executive Director Charles Okeahalam, will leave the company in May, while Non-Executive Director Fabian Ajogwu will step down on October 21.

‘The board is fully committed to enhancing the corporate governance at the company and establishing a truly independent board. Despite the recent targeted attacks aimed at derailing that process, the board remains strong and resolute in completing the task,’ Seplat said.

The announcement comes after legal action against the immigration status of Chief Executive Officer Roger Brown was withdrawn by the Nigeria Immigration Service last week. The lawsuit had been filed against the company and some of its directors and officers, calling for the withdrawal of Brown’s immigration visa.

Shares in Seplat Energy were down 0.6% at 96.90 pence each in London on Tuesday around midday.
