Smiths Group PLC - London-based engineering firm - Names Steve Williams as next chair, joining the board as an independent non-executive director on September 1 and taking over as chair at the annual general meeting on November 16. Williams will replace George Buckley, who will retire from the board. Born in the UK, Williams currently is chair of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based aluminium maker Alcoa Corp. He was chief executive officer of Suncor Energy Inc from 2012 to 2019 and previously worked at Exxon Mobil Corp in the UK. ‘As a global business headquartered in the UK, we are pleased that Steve shares our British heritage and global outlook,’ said Smith Group CEO Paul Keel.
