Invinity Energy secures 0.88 MWh battery sale to Detroit workers union

ALN

Invinity Energy Systems PLC on Thursday celebrated a battery sale to the Detroit branch of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, for use in a solar storage project.

The project will see four Invinity VS3 vanadium flow batteries, with cumulative power of 0.88 megawatt-hours, installed at the International Brotherhood Local 58 headquarters in Michigan, alongside a 235 kilowatt-peak solar array.

The London-based utility-grade energy storage manufacturer’s batteries will be used to store and dispatch power from the solar array. Invinity said this would help the building to become carbon neutral, while also reducing energy bills and providing better energy security in case of blackouts.

IBEW Local 58 will also use the system to train some of their 4,800 members to manage and install Invinity’s vanadium flow battery technology. The IBEW itself organises apprenticeship programmes in the US and Canada, and trains future electricians, linesmen, and wiring installers.

Delivery of the batteries is expected to start in the third quarter of this year.

Invinity Energy shares were flat at 34.00 pence each in London on Thursday morning.
