Unilever PLC - London-based consumer goods firm - Hires Ian Meakins to succeed incumbent Chair Nils Andersen, effective December 1. Andersen will step down at annual general meeting in May before Meakins joins board as non-executive director and chair designate on September 1. Meakins is chair of Compass Group PLC and Rexel SA, but will retire from Rexel on August 31. He was chief executive of Ferguson PLC from 2009 to 2016 and formerly worked at Diageo PLC and Procter & Gamble Co. Andersen joined Unilever as a non-executive director in 2015 and was promoted to chair in November 2019. He was hired as chair by ASML Holding NV earlier this year. ‘Nils chaired the company through a period of significant volatility and some of the most challenging operational conditions in decades. He was instrumental in sharpening Unilever’s focus on operational performance,’ says Chief Executive Officer Hein Schumacher.
