Guild Esports shares jump on launch of new Street Fighter team

ALN

Guild Esports PLC on Friday launched a new professional team to compete in fighting game Street Fighter 6.

Shares in Guild Esports were up 23% at 0.69 pence each in London on Friday morning.

The London-based esports business said the new team, which comprises Alfonso Martinez Pozo, Reneil Landell and Rabiae Houmaid, will generate revenue and audience growth opportunities for the company.

Guild Esports also announced on Friday it will collaborate with Sky Broadband Ltd to launch a livestreamed Street Fighter tournament nicknamed ’Sweat Room’.

The company said as part of the contest, participants will ‘compete in one-on-one Street Fighter matches in a heated room, challenging gamers to perform at their best while under pressure.’

Chief Executive Officer Jasmine Skee said: ‘Street Fighter offers a completely new audience and future revenue-generation opportunities for Guild, where we will maintain our high standards of professional excellence and intend to compete at the highest level.’
