BP PLC - London-based oil major - Archaea Energy, a BP subsidiary, brings online the ‘first of its kind’ renewable natural gas plant in Medora, Indiana, BP announces on Wednesday. The plant is located next to a landfill owned by Ohio-based residential and commercial waste and recycling company Rumpke Waste & Recycling. It is the first plant to come online since BP’s acquisition of Archaea in December last year. The Medora plant can process 3,200 cubic feet of landfill gas per minute into renewable natural gas. Archaea is part of BP’s plan to increase biogas supply volumes by around six times by 2030 to around 70,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. BP says it is the largest producer of renewable natural gas in the US since its $3.3 billion purchase of Archaea. ‘The addition of Archaea Energy’s RNG plant at our site will help further reduce emissions and give residents and businesses assurance that their waste is not only being properly disposed of but also being put to good use,’ says Jeff Rumpke, area president of Rumpke Waste & Recycling.
