Wizz Air Holdings PLC on Friday said it does not expect the number of grounded aircraft to increase in 2024 due to Pratt & Whitney engines. The Budapest-based airline noted an announcement from the US Federal Aviation Administration on Monday, in which it set out new maintenance requirements for PW1100G engines, which it says require inspection and possible art replacement if necessary. However, Wizz Air said the announcement is in line with guidance previously given by International Aero Engines LLC, meaning that it has made no changes to its capacity assumptions for 2024. The firm said there will be no increase in grounded aircraft in 2024 and no change to its grounding programme set to take place in January. It noted that the maintenance and part replacement requirements have already been accounted for in its original planning. The decision means hundreds of aircraft worldwide will need to be grounded for inspections. ‘The FAA is issuing this NPRM after determining that the unsafe condition described previously is likely to exist or develop on other products of the same type design,’ the FAA said.
